Will they every be able to restore hearing loss?!

Question: Just wondering, they can restore vision but I haven't seen anything on hearing loss. I have no memory of being able to hear out of one of my ears due to spinal meningitis as an infant. I have a hard time hearing people sometimes and its really uncomfortable when I cant hear the sounds in the head phones because different sounds come out of different speakers. Or I cant get the full effect of surround sound.

Although cochlear implants and other devices can help restore lost hearing, cochlear implants with positioners (and perhaps those without as well) have been associated with bacterial meningitis. I suggest you consult with an otologist to find out what your options are.

I hope so.

Yes, doctors are starting to have success with restoring hearing. One of the main ways is with a Cochlear Implant. Basically it's a device that is hardwired into your brain and your brain learns how to interpret the electrical signals to sound. See the link below for more information.

i really want that to happen. i have deafness and wear hearing aids and wish someone could just heal me so i can less of a hard time at my school and be able to undertand everything that the teachers are saying. if u find out anything...feel free to email because i would really like to know :D....

my friend went deaf at a very early age due to a fever. a few years later she had a major operation where a chip was intalled in her brain. there is also a magnetic on the outside of her head. she wears a hearing aid type thing under her hair which is held on by the very strong magnet. this aid transfers the sound waves around her into pulses which are transfered to her brain and then converted back to artificial sound waves. even though she is technically deaf, she can hear miraculously! i guess it just matters where the deafness originates- whether the problem is in the ear or in the brain. hers is also a very unique case because she was fortunate to be able to undergo such a drastic procedure.

i know they can do cochlear implants. i don't know if it can restore 100% of hearing, but they're supposed to help.
