Is diabetes the reason for my bad eyesight?!

Question: Well, I saw a commercial and it said diabetes can cause blindness and my grandfather was diabetic. I have the worst eyes out of my whole family. My left eye is lazy
(not noticable YET only when I take a picture with flash will you notice) and is half blind. Could diabetes be the cause of it? I really want to know now and see if I can do something about it.

Plz Help Me!!

Kiko Chick! Diabetes is a multi-organ disease that affects almost all parts of the body simultaneously and eyes are most commonly affected. The side affects of diabetes can be prevented or delayed by being in touch with doctors.

Early diagnosis and treatment goes a long way in preserving good eyesight throughout life. Sometimes, diabetes may be first detected by manifestations in the eye like infections, boils, styes, recurrent redness, mild haziness of vision, double vision, frequent change of glasses for reading, difficulty in focusing near or distance, difficulty in driving especially at night, glare etc. as these signs also appear in established diabetic patients. In the presence of these suspicious symptoms or when in doubt it's wise to have detailed eye testing from a specialist.

You can go blind from diabetes. However, if you have had problems with your sight and eyes your entire life, and have never tested positive for type 1 or 2 diabetes, then it is unlikely that is the issue.

Typically, people who are going blind because of diabetes have huge sores on their bodies and my have even had extremeties amputated, with insulin treatment. Your eyes are typically one of the last things to go after your liver, kidneys and extremeties.

If you are concerned you have diabetes, you should contact your physician, and get tests done right away.

Good luck & best wishes!!!
