How does courage relate to surviving cancer?!


Question: Courage is one of the biggest things you need when you are fighting this disease. If you don't have that you will be done. You will need the courage to do the chemo or the radiation. You will lose your hair and be sore. You will need courage to get yourself through all of that. You will need the courage to keep fighting even when you want to give up. You need the courage to get yourself out of bed when you don't feel like you can. Courage is walking out in public without your hair for the first time. So does courage relate? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is one factor but does not play as big of a role as choosing the correct oncologist and cancer facility for your particular cancer and personal situation plus do not underestimate the X factor - luck. Lots of very brave & courageous people succumb to cancer every day so just having lots of courage will only take you so far.

I define courage as pressing forward in the face of fear. I am an oncology nurse (meaning I work on the cancer ward) and I see people face some of the hardest decisions of their lives. Sometimes it takes courage to say, "no more chemotherapy" and sometimes it takes courage in the face of odds to say, "do everything you can to help save my life". The human spirit is divine. I'm amazed by my patients daily. I hope this helps you to understand how courage relates to surviving cancer.

I am a cancer survivor myself. To me courage is what got me through my cancer. Staying strong and fighting for your life. It definitely gets tough. There were times when I thought death would be easier than chemo. It makes you super sick, and I had to wear a face mask wherever I went. I lost all my hair and I was a teenager. I was on isolation in the hospital for 3-4 wks frequently. However, if I didn't have the courage and strength to keep fighting I wouldn't have been alive today. Now I am a student nurse hoping to work in pediatric oncology to help lil ones stay strong and courageous through tough times.
