I have sortof bad hearing?!

Question: I have always had bad hearing- even as a little kid. It doesnt really bug me, but if someone is teaching a class or something I really strain to hear if they are quiet. I cant always hear the tv. So, every once in a while I get it checked. It is not horrible... and they usually say to come back every couple years to make sure it isnt getting worse.

This time the dr told me I could get hearing aids if I wanted to. He said it is fine either way. He was reccomending the dekta oticon basic pair and my insurance would cover all but a hundred dollars.

Anyway, has anyone ever had experience with this? By the way, I am not old- I am only 26.

Well it does sound like you are having some trouble hearing so you should probably consider it. Most of the time insurance doesn't pay for heairng aids so if yours does you should take advantage of it and at least give them a try. You should get 30 days to try them and if you don't like them or find they don't help you very much you can return them within 30 days. Also you need to commit to them they are not going to help you if they are sitting in your drawer at home they need to be on your ears. So think about it and think about if you will really wear them.

And I have never fit a lot of oticon, but it is a good hearing aid manufacturer.

did you go through an audiology test (it is a test to gauge your ability to hear sounds) or did your doctor just look at your ear and said that your hearing impaired?

anyway, I had a quite similar problem (when I was in my twenties) with you and after going through the audiology test the specialist found out it was occupational hearing loss (frequent exposure to environment where loud noise are present). My hearing impairment only happens now and then, like it comes and goes.

there are many causes to hearing impairment such as acoustic trauma, head injury, chronic ear infections and occupational hearing loss.
