When i was 15 i was afraid of accutane and i probably had the worst acne you ever saw! My doctor strongly suggested it but i wanted to try something milder like antibiotics. After a couple of years and no results i finally gave in and tried accutane. All i can say is that i am very sorry i did not use it earlier.
It took a few months to work and it was a bit rough, but the final results were amazing! It's been about 8 years since i completed the accutane treatment and i have never gotten a single pimple. Keep in mind i had TERRIBLE ance. Now ,
my skin looks great and it seemed to even help the scars.

I was also not over-weight, and actually very athletic. I played soccer, ran track and cross country, and played basketball. It didn't interfere with any of my sports.

It was funny because after my entire extended family saw my results they all put their kids on it before their acne got to be as bad as mine was. It has helped all my brothers, sisters, and cousins be acne free.

I've also heard that it can make you depressed or suicidal, but it did not depress me at all. I personally think that the depression comes from having terrible acne and not from the drug. I did not have any strange mood changes at all.

You will have very dry skin for a while and your lips will be real dry for a few months, but your acne will be completely gone! Give it a try...It will save you from a lot of misery.

I say dont take a risk..

My prescription seems to be working well with me. Also , Ive heard that toothpaste and lemon juice works. You should try that before doing anythign else.

My husband took the drug accutane for about 1 year...and a few months. He was not over wieght or anything. I know that he did have to lay off the sodas, drinks with carbonation, and sweets...chocolates.
It worked GREAT.....but remember you have to drink alot of water...because I know that it did dry out his skin a good bit ...and made him thirsty ALOT.

Hope that this helps....and Good Luck .

I started getting acne when I was 11 and at age 15 I had enough. I tried creams which didnt work like proactive, that was abust,,,and I also tried some pill that I dont rememebr the name of anymore. Anyways, nothing helped me so my derm told me about accutane. I went on it and I have been acne free for 4 years. The drug is absolutely amazing. When it comes to the whole suicide issue, what people dont realize is that accutane is for extreme cases so these kids are already depressed about their acne. I honestly would not worry about suicidal thoughts. The only problems I had with it was that it made my skin very dry. But I had never oily skin so this was kind of a relieve. I would recommend accutane if its your last resort.

I am going to say yes but make sure you follow exactly what the doctor tells you to do and if it has a bad effect on you take it only half as often and if the side effects are still too bad then stop. Accutane works wonders for acne.
