Have you ever coughed so hard that you see lights?!

Question: I have a really bad case of brochitis, sinusitis and a respiratory infection right now. I am coughing horribly. Last night, I was coughing so hard that my chest hurt from my sternun area to just to the bottom of my ribs.
It got to the point that I could see bright lights in my peripheral vision. They were bright gold (think sparklers) and stayed for just a moment then faded away.
Is this something to worry about? I DO use an Rx cough med but it is too strong for me to use during the day time so I use a milder version of it.
I see my MD next week and plan to talk to him but wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

yes, I have. I just heard this morning about rubbing Vicks on the bottoms of your feet before you go to bed - I guess something about the soles of your feet absorbing stuff. Give it a try and tell me if it works for you. (you'll have to put on socks after you rub it on - I know how you are about socks.....)

I had this once, but it was white sparklers, not gold. It is possible that you've strained your eyeball. Don't laugh, it can be serious.

Yes I have, and I ended up breaking a rib, well fracturing it. The 'lights are connected to blood pressure, I also had them during pregnancy. Probably because you are coughing so violently.

Take care.

Yes, but it passed immediately and didn't cause me any trouble.

Are you still working? If so, protect your co-workers and clients by covering all your coughs.

Despite all the writing about it, the only one I have ever given a cold to is my husband who has almost no immunity. I've caught colds from my students but never have given them any. Might be luck because I've gone to work really sick. I wouldn't do it anymore.
