Do adults get lice?!

Question: My child has a small case of head lice and I was just wondering if adults usually get it? The reason I was wondering is bc I have known alot of pp whose small children had lice and they (the parents) didnt get them. I have also heard its bc mommys usually use hair dye or use hair spray stuff like that. Any knowlege on this? thanks

Yes, adults can, and do, get it - all the time. They do prefer clean hair ... but that means clean as in not "dirty, oily" hair. They are not bothered by dyes, perms, hair sprays. They will jump into that type of hair and stay just fine. My daughter had very long hair as a chld and came home from school with it several times in elementary school. The RID shampoo is really hard on your hair. Rather than that, use a conditioner cream rinse called "Nixx". It used to be a prescription only and the Dr would call it in, but it could be OTC by now. Just wash you hair with regular shampoo and then use the Nixx. It is SO much better for you hair. AND DO NOT USE FLEA AND TIC SHAMPOO OR SPRAY. These critters are NOT fleas and you kids are NOT dogs ... it's NOT the same thing. People used to say that all the time but the pharmacist, the pediatrician and a registered, certified hair specialist said NEVER use those on human hair!

One final note -- to completely get rid of lice, you MUST treat the whole family. Even those that don't show lice or eggs. You MUST also treat the furniture with a spray made to kill lice on furniture. Wash ALL your beddings and towels in HOT water with the old fashioned bottle of Lysol liquid. For stuffed animals and things that cannot be washed, gather them all up and double bag them in trash bags for at least 2 weeks. They will not be able to feed or lay eggs and they will dry up, die and fall off these items.

It's a pain to do all this, but take it from one with plenty of experience, anything less will just result in them coming back - again and again!!!!!!

I have gotten them many times as an adult as kids bring them home from soon. It depends on the amount of exposure & if they like your hair I guess.

Yes adults can get it too

anybody with hair is suceptible. especially clean hair. its a stupid asumption that only people with greasy hair get it or if osmeone does get it then that makes them dirty.

yes adults can get it but lice do not like the hair dyes and gels that many women use which is why some women and men may not get them.

yes adults can get it. the hairspray and hair dye is true to an extent. It helps keep them out but it can still slip in there sometimes.

Yes, anyone can get it. They really like clean hair. My daughter has had it 3 different times, but not the rest of us. I felt dirty, disgusted...the school nurse told me that they love clean hair because they can latch on to it. I also just heard from someone at school that if RID or whatever you use doesn't work, use flea and tick shampoo (yes the same for dogs and cats) She said it worked a lot better and faster than the other stuff...I haven't had to try that so let me know if you do!!

Yes, of course adults also get lice.

If this is the first time your child has ever had lice and it is very rare wherever you live then shampoos like Nix are okay but very unhealthy.

Rosemary oil also gets rid of lice and keeps them away. Wash the hair very well, use a lice comb to get out every egg and louse in the hair and then put 2 or 3 drops of Rosemary oil on the head -- behind the ears, on the top of the head, at the nape of the neck, areas where lice love to live -- and this will prevent re-infection.
