Can one detoxify a hep C liver?!

Question: no. infact, many places on the net suggest the use of some form of herbal remedy, or flush/cleanse to rid the liver of "liver stones", however, there is NO SUCH thing as liver stones!
The stones they speak of are formed in the bilary ducts that reside in the liver. They often find their way into the gallbladder and then you end up with gallstones- and many times emergency room visits because the stones get lodged.
the best and ONLY way to detox a liver is the correct diet for those with HCV and water intake! (teas/coffees work too).
There are other touts and speels on the internet of different ways to "detoxify" your liver, but it's all mumbo-jumbo. For those with liver damage from a chronic disease such as HCV the only thing you can do is reduce toxicities, not eliminate them because when you've got liver damage, anything you can try can become toxic- even those remedies you find on the internet. Many claim the practice of these treatments make them feel better, but usually it's because you suffer a few days to a week or more ingesting nothing but herbs, juices ect...of course your going to feel better once you begin to eat again!

Don't play with it Alexis! :o)

Q Is Liver Cleansing Dangerous?
What do you think of the theory that many diseases are related to buildups in the liver? For a healthy person, do you see any dangers in following the liver cleansing advice?
A Answer (Published 7/5/2004)

I don' t believe that most diseases are related to toxic buildups in the liver or that cleansing the liver is a worthwhile health practice. Some health conditions may follow compromised liver function, but these are due to liver damage. Serious liver disease can result from alcoholism or infection with hepatitis viruses B and C. It can also be caused by an autoimmune disease or be the result of cancer. An important function of the liver is to deal with toxins that enter the body. If you are in good health and not overloading your systems with toxic substances (such as alcohol), the liver will cleanse itself very well.

Anotherwords, you have a virus. A liver cleanse cannot possibly "detoxify" your liver. It is already battling with the HCV and the damage to the liver causes toxicities from eating, breathing ect, to take longer to filter. If you add nothing but herbs and juices ect and not eat, your becoming toxic anyway.

Avoid red meats, eat a serving size chicken/fish/turkey, more veggies and fruits and grains. Drink water. Avoid iron, fake sugars, alochol and drugs of anykind if you can.
Limit refined sugars, sodium.

Your detoxing or keeping the toxins from overloading because you are doing so through eliminating the things that are harder on the liver.

No need for detoxing the other quack ways- just because it's natural doesn't mean it's good for you! Especially those with liver disease! :o)
