I agree. The shot has had less than 5? years of testing. I think its a super great thing. But I will not get it now. I agree that we should be waiting for 10-15 years, not really for it to be more advanced, but to ensure there are no ill efects that we may not be aware of today.
Hey, 3% of 555,500 is still a shitload. If it can save 16,665 people, power to it. And why not just get it and in 10 years get the new one... thats what I think anyway.
Slowhand is absolutely right...by your logic, since chemo & surgery are only effective in 90% of cases, perhaps we should wait another 10 years to see if THEY get more advanced?

AS a caretaker for a 46 yr old cancer patient, any method to prevent cancer is necessary and must be explored. Vaccines like Gardasil are not just thrown out there to see what happens to those who take it. It has been tested in clinical trials and deemed worthy of its use. Just ONE woman prevented from getting a cancer is reason enough to try anything to prevent it. If pharmaceutical companies felt as you, why should they bother to spend huge amounts of money on research to save a mere 2 or 3 % of the population? What about "orphan drugs"? These sometimes only help a miniscule portion of our populace yet if you are the person with some rare disease, you would thank God for that drug to cure you. My girlfriend has advanced ovarian cancer and finds herself almost daily writhing from abdominal pain even with drugs like Fentanyl, ketamine and oxycodone. Would she not love to find a drug to kill all the pain or cure her from this disease? I would like to sum up what cervical or vulvar cancer can lead to- then you decide- look up "pelvic exenteration".
