Are AIDS and poverty related?!

Question: YES!!! yes and yes again!

of course people with high incomes can become infected with HIV as well as people living in poverty, but people living in poverty are more likely to develope AIDS and to engage in risky behavior because of related social issues.

according to the CDC, "poverty may place African American women at increased risk because of the power imbalance created by financial dependence on men." poverty also increases the likelyhood that any other STD will go untreated, and other untreated STDs make HIV infection more likely. then there is simply the matter of access to health care and percieved access to testing. also, people living in poverty are more likely to engage in intraveinous drug use and/or to spend time in prisons--both of which greatly increase the risk of infection. there is also a lack of practical HIV/AIDS educaion in impoverished areas. there are also cultural issues, with hispanic immigrants living in poverty, there is an emphasis and importance of having a large family, so men will refuse to where condoms (also because many hispanic immigrants are catholic and the church bans condom use). in inner city areas, many men will refuse to where condoms because it is concidered unmanly or uncomfortable--and since there are many more women available than men, if the woman refuses sex without a condom, the man can just easily move on.

of course correlation is not causation, but the question did not ask about causation. it asked if AIDS was related to poverty, that is a question about correlation. and yes, they are related.

NO.

If you were to research that in detail you would find that yes is the answer to your question!!!

no

Not at all...they are 2 very different outcomes of a few bad decisions.

Sure.
It can be.

KINDA
IF THE GOVERMENT PAID FOR MEDICINE AND KEPT HOSPITALS AND STUFF CLEAN IT WOULDNT BE AS BAD

Yeah!!! when people can't watch TV or afford to do anything they result to basic instincts and they screw...a lot. Just imagine not having nothing to do and having a partner going through the same thing and neither of you can afford a condom.

Yes! The very poor and the very rich.

And: With AIDS you loose what you have.

yea cause safe sex is expensive

poverty is related to a lack of education, or misinformation.
not being informed is related to aids.

No it is not related. Condom's are free in most Country's, most certainly so in S-Africa and in Uk.

They can be. Poverty is often linked to poor education, and if you're not very well educated you're unlikely to know very much about protecting yourself against things like AIDS.

Aids started in San Fransisco among the Homosexual community so the answer has to be no, it has to do with lifestyle.

Not necessarily; however poverty deprives many of simple things we, in industrialized countries, take for granted such as clean water and the knowledge and opportunity to prevent this disease. People in developing and 3rd world countries certainly do not have the education and medical care to be properly attended to...So in summary, while AIDS seems mostly a personal (sexualy transmitted) issue in countries like the USA, true poverty can be an important factor in the spread of this disease but is not usually a direct cause.

No for sure since way of transmission are
A person can get infected with HIV through the following routes:

Unprotected sex:

If a person engages in sexual intercourse with an infected person without using a condom, s/he can get infected. The sexual act can be both vaginal and anal.

Sharing of needles:

If a person shares the needle or syringe used by/on an infected person, either for injecting drugs or drawing blood or for any other purpose involving piercing, s/he can get infected. Instruments used for piercing and tattooing also carry a small risk of infection.

Unsafe blood:

A person can get the infection, if he/she is given transfusion of infected blood.

Improperly sterilised hospital tools:

If surgical devices like syringes and scalpels, or even certain instruments, used on an infected person, are used on another person without proper sterilization, they can transmit the infection.

Parent to Child:

An HIV positive mother can transmit the virus to child during pregnancy or birth. Breast milk can also act as a transmission-medium.
Theoretically oral sex without condom (on men) or barriers like dental dam, vaginal dams or plastic wrap (on women) can also transmit the infection.

No, HIV is related in some countries as promiscuity, but many people just think that they never going to get it.
But it is definitely linked with EDUCATION.

Listen you dumb *****

AIDS IS NOT RELATED TO POVERTY!!!!

Poverty is related to lack of education, environment, health, social status etc. These are risk factors of getting AIDS but not related.

That's like saying ooo if your poor ur gonna get AIDS or get shot or something. If you are poor you are at a higher risk of getting AIDS because of your lifestyle and possibly lack of education. Don't listen to these hillbillies from kentucky that create their reality from what they see on t.v or read online. If anyone has ever taken a statistics class OR HAS ANYTHING HIGHER THAN A G.E.D will know that the answers is NO!!!
