There are so many things that can cause rectal bleeding. If it were cancer, I think they'd have him in much faster than three months. I think it's awful he has to wait that long!

Sometimes, the rectum just becomes inflamed and bleeds. Or he could have a bacterial infection--not likely, since it's been several months and all. He could have non-cancerous polyps that are bleeding, as well.
It could be Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Crohn's especially starts when people are young (I was 16 when I was diagnosed, but I can remember having symptoms since I was 12).
Crohn's disease is an inflammatory disease where the lining of the digestive system is attacked by the immune system. Ulcerative colitis has the inflammation localized in the colon.
Both of these can cause diarrhea and cramping.

He could also have diverticulosis. That can cause bleeding, but it usually happens when you are older.

They'll probably do a colonoscopy to figure out what is going on. Poor kid! I thought it was awful to have one at 16...

http://www.ccfa.org/ is a good website about Crohn's and UC. These websites list the different things that can cause the bleeding: http://www.medicinenet.com/rectal_bleedi...

I hope he'll be OK! Don't worry too much. There are so many causes, it's very possible it's nothing cancerous. I understand your fear, tho. My granny is dying of colon cancer right now--only has a couple months to live. I hope he doesn't have Crohn's, either. It's rather unpleasant! Email me if you want--click on my lovely picture there.

it could still be hemroids, they cause you to bleed from the rectum, but im not sure about bowel cancer.

At the point you've hit--multiple doctor's visits, specialist appointments--no one on this site is going to have any new answers for you.

Your question made me initially think hemorrhoids, but obviously, that isn't the actual cause for your little guy. The doctors that have actually seen him have more information than anyone on here does, so I would trust their diagnosis.

At this point in the system, it will be a rare condition. This doesn't mean serious! It just means that not a lot of people have it, so it isn't often thought of or tested for. It could be serious--I don't want to give you false hope here--but if could end up not being a huge deal.

There is no way that someone on-line can give you a real diagnosis with this amount of information, either. How much bleeding? What tests have the doctors done, and what were the results?

Rest assured that your doctors are working hard on this problem. How is he doing? Does he have any other complications, or is he still enjoying life and acting like a normal, rambunctious little boy?

Call your doctor and ask some more questions. Doctors tend to brush people off because they think they won't understand the diagnosis or the stage of the diagnosis. Make them explain it to you. It's part of their job, though almost no one makes them do it. Get them to write down the difficult words so that you can look it up on your own afterwards, or ask questions on here with more details.

If he had something life-threatening, he would already be seeing the doctors, so don't worry--he's going to stick with you! The doctors should have told you want signs to watch for that mean an emergency. Did they mention anything? Keep an eye out of those. If they didn't say anything, call them and explain that you're worried and want to know what complications mean a trip to the ER.

I wish you the best of luck. This is always hard on the family.

I assume that he has received a colonoscopy ( scope up into the colon ) to look for possible cancer, that could cause the bleeding. A severe ulcer can also result in bleeding.

Bleeding from the rectum can be a sign of a serious problem. I would want to get it checked out as soon as possible. For more information, search the internet for " rectum bleeding causes "....several sites will appear that will show diagrams and give possible solutions.

GOOD LUCK.

I would look at using Glyconutrients in the meantime and afterwords. I've had some amazing experiences with this stuff as well as seeing many people with serious diseases find great benefits.
