Children's Tyleonl?!

Question: I have been feeling sneezey and my throat has been feeling itchy all day. I was wondering if i took Children's Tylenol would it relieve some of my symptoms. It's all we have in our medicine cabinet besides Sudafed 12 hour nasal decongestant. If i took the Children's Tylenol would I have to double the dose to 4tsp or take the 3 tsp since it is recommended for children aged 11?

Im 18 by the way.
& im 127lbs if that helps.

I am a EMT. If I were you, I would not take Children's Tylenol for your age, weight, or symptoms.

What it does, and I will try to keep it simple, is Tylenol is a Acetaminophen. The active ingredient in Tylenol products, is thought to relieve mild to moderate pain by elevating your body's overall pain threshold. Acetaminophen is thought to lower your fever by helping your body eliminate excess heat. Your not in pain nor do you have a fever, so your "Contraindicated" as we would put it in the medical field for this medication. If you took it, it would not work properly and you would have to take something else, which if you are not careful, could cause a accidental overdose and you would have bigger problems that sneezing and a itchy throat.

Your best bet is to take a Diphennydramine. A Diphennydramine is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. So if it is a antihistamine, then all of these symptoms would go away.

Alright, now that we have that out of the way, my answer for you is no. Benadryl is what you need to be taking.

The Tylenol is only going to help with fever or pain. You need an antihistamine like Benadryl or Claritin. I really wouldn't bother taking it, it's not going to do anything for you, you'll just be wasting the medication.

You need allergy medicine.

Benadryl, claritin, zyrtec, etc.

The sudafed would help, but if it's psuedoephedrine instead of phenylprine, it may affect your ability to sleep.
