Why is my ringworm getting worse?!

Question: i have a ringworm lesion on my arm and i started using an over the counter cream a few days ago. the center has gone from clear to red...so it just looks a whole lot worse. I know some people say it take a while to clear up but is it supposed to get uglier before it gets better?

You should definitely go to a doctor to be sure that what you
have is ringworm becuase he can prescribe the best medication.
The absolute best over the counter medicine for ringworm is
said to be Lamisil cream with the active ingredient being terbinafine
hydrochloride.
You can also use hydrocortisone cream on top of the Lamisil, as hydrocortisone is a steroid and if what you have is ringworm it will help weaken it.
You could also use a miconazole nitrate powder on it, but that
would be my second choice.
Ringworm is a notoriously stubborn fungus, so be patient.

I would say if it's not drying up and becoming smaller in 3 days go to your doctor, sometimes over the counter medications won't do the trick. It usually gets worse before it gets better though.

Have you considered the possibility it may not be ringworm? Perhaps you should get it checked out by a doctor.

because ringworms are fungal....you should use foot fungus pads...like for atheles foot...i know it sound weird..but it will dry it out and it will go away....you can easily buy this over the counter....i had ringworms when i was a child and that got rid of 'em

oh icky.
go to the doctor.
they should prescribe you some cream that works good.

trust me; none of that over the counter stuff works completely.

Hello,

(ANS) If what you have is ringworm then your GP can prescribe you a course of the latest treatment which is a drug called "terbinafine" but you do need a prescription for this. You cannot normally just buy this over the counter. My advise is go back to your GP if it's not clearing up. Ringworm is a very stubborn infection so as others have said it can take a while to finally go away completely.
