What illnesses cause reoccurring absceses to form?!
Question: i have recently been diagnosed with herpes type 2 and for some reason i think everytime i have an outbreak i seem to get one on my bottom and it just forms into this huge boil. i have had this thing reoccur in the same spot three diffrent times. now im not sure if it is the herpes or maybe some other reason why this is reoccurring. Any info will be greatly appreciated. thanks!!!

Hi, Sham - Sorry to hear about the problems you're having. When a person has an outbreak of herpes, whether it be HSV-1 or HSV-2, their immune system is usually at a somewhat low point, which allows the HSV to manifest outward signs. When your HSV-2 lesions have actually opened and haven't developed the "crusted" appearance yet, the unprotected skin is susceptible to other infections. One of the more common bacterial pathogens that can routinely cause "boils" or subcutaneous abscesses is Staphylococcus aureus, which normally lives on everyone's skin. However, Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) outbreaks have become very common. If you've had more than two-three "boils" develop in the past year, you may consider having your doctor check you for MRSA. It is a treatable infection. Good luck.
