What are the main causes of an oily face......surely its fried foods.?!

Question: No, the oil on skin is called sebum, and its production is controlled by testosterone. Genetic factors control how much testosterone you produce, and the levels are higher in men and in adolescents of both sexes.
Studies haven't been able to demonstrate any link between a diet including fried foods and oily skin.

No. Genetics.

Hormones. They are completely what cause oils on your face unless one is standing at a fryer all day long. Over washing and scrubbing will make it worse. Try a regular soap, warm, not hot water and finish with witch hazel, found by the peroxide in the drug store, on a cotton ball. This will help some. You must also drink lots of water because dehydration can also take the form of oil on your face.

Some of it has to do with your diet, but not entirely. There are several causes of oily skin:
Heredity
Diet
Hormone levels
Pregnancy
Birth control pills
Cosmetics you use
Humidity and hot weather
So basically, changing your diet will only do so much good to help control oily skin.

genes. my nan and my dad both have oily skin, they look lovely and young - so although i'm spotty now (oily skin) i'm looking forward to when i look young at 50+

edit: poor hygeine? i use a good cleanser, toner and light moisturiser 9designed for oily skin) twic a day, but my skin is still oily by lunch time.

Oily foods help speed up the process but it is mostly genetics and poor hygiene

I have Lyme, and I notice that when my bowel movements are greasy- and fatty-looking and my liver enzymes are elevated, my face produces more oil than normal. So something tells me that when I am not metabolizing fats properly, the only other way out is through my pores. Not very scientific, but that's what I believe.

Only if you rub them against your face.

skin type, but greasy or fried foods doesn't help oily skin.

No not always more commonly it cannot be helped.
