After applying Salicylic acid to callus are you supposed to rub off the dead ski!

Question: I just started using salicylic acid to remove my calluses and as I read up on it online, I came across some pages that said that "Salicylic acid softens the dead skin so that a callus or corn can be rubbed off" does that mean I should rub it off once it starts to soften? Also, does anyone know more or less how long it will take to start to soften? Oh, and the callus is now turning really white (is that supposed to happen?).. that's the only change I've seen; but then again I've only been using it for 3 days. Thanks in advance.

yeah, rub it, but rub it gently. you could take a sock, or a small towel, and gently rub it every day. only a tiny bit of skin will be coming off. you don't want to do it too hard or you could actually break the skin open.
