Can someone please explain what a bowel obstruction is. its an emergency?!
Question: my mother had an unlcer and she was in great pain, so she went to the hospital at like 11pm last night. now i get a call about something called a bowel obstruction and she has to go into major surgery. i dont know what this is and im worried. be honest with me please, is this dangerous?

Yes, a bowel obstruction is a MAJOR problem. It could be because of Crohn's Disease, which I have. Obstructions are a complication of it. My brother has had 3, count them...3, bowel resections due to the disease. I am fortunate as to not have had to have surgery.
So, yes, it is a major surgery but, barring any complications, she should come out just fine.
