Do people still get tuberculosis? If so, how?!

Question: If possible, please explain instead of linking me

Answers: If possible, please explain instead of linking me

Yes, people do still contract tuberculosis. Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection caused by a germ called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. spreads through the air when a person with TB of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes or talks. In most cases the initial infection is pretty mild, and can be easily mistaken as a mild cold. In many cases, the body is able to isolate it and keep it from reproducing. It goes into an inactive state, and this is called a latent infection. It can stay that way for decades, during which time the person is not sick and is not contagious at all. In other cases, the body is not able to contain the infection, which is called an active infection or active case. In both instances there are medication and treatments available to control the disease and get rid of it. There are some varients now that are resistant to some of the medications, but those are rare and even still treatable- although in some cases it is treated by removing the infected lung tissue. There really is no reason to die of TB anymore, although people still do in some places. Unfortunately, people still get a bad gut fear reaction when they hear about it, with visions of dying in a pool of blood coming to the forefront of their minds. It's unfortunate that happens, as it's not a true picture of the disease or the outcome. There is a vaccination available to help prevent the disease, and skin tests which can detect when you have been exposed- as well as medications to treat it. The WHO is working to try to eliminate the disease, but as it exists in nature as an animal infection, that is not highly likely. It's more effective to educate, vaccinate and treat - and not get caught up in all the media hoopla.

Because it is an air borne virus...You know like a lot of viruses go around and you accidently get one...I have heard the viruses are getting stronger!!!

through the senses, smell, touch,,poverty foods and bad lifestyle

Yes, have heard of some Indonesian fishermen recently fishing in Australian waters were diagnosed with this. I believe it is a virus, spread by air, etc. and it is very contagious.

Tuberculosis is extremely prevalent in poor countries or certain areas.

There are huge TB epidemics in Russian prisons, the island of Haiti, and Peru. (Read 'Mountains Beyond Mountains' by Tracy Kidder for more info)

It is contractible by breath, saliva, or blood, and is an airborne disease (you can get it by being in the same room for a long period of time).

Of course they do! It's an extremely contagious bacterium. It's the number one killer of people with AIDs in the United States and is very prevalent in third world countries.

By the way, 1/3 of the world's population is infected with some strain of the bacteria. It's usually kept in check by the immune system.

yep, the virus can spread through coughing, singing, talking close, etc....
it doesn't really spread by kissing or sharing lipgloss & stuff like that.
you can even get it while you're out shopping at a mall or something. scary.

if you're infected [like me] doesn't really mean you can spread it. if you're infected, all you gotta do is take medication every 2 days for 9 months & you're okay. [i think. well, that's what i have to do =/]

Yes they sure do. If a person who has it at the time it is contagious coughs and another partakes of it, that person may get it. There are many cases here in the USA. People come over from other countries, including Mexico, with TB all the time. If they migrate here legally they are tested for it. If they are tourists they are not. But we all know that there are many people here illegally...
This site may help... (even though you don't want to be linked, it is a good definition)

is this because of that article in the new york sun.....

Yep...
Because it was easily transmitted through air...

Most of the cases occurred in high populated countries in Asia....

yes people still get it and they get it the same way they always have.......via aerosolized water droplets.

yes,it is an airborne virus in which transmitted throug sneezing, coughing. You will get the virus if you are exposed to the air with this virus(ex. if someone around you with TB sneeze and you inhale the air he sneezed) considering that you have a weak immune system.....

yeah people do. it is an airborn virus so you can get it if you are near someone who has tuberculosis
