Does alcoholism is a desease?!

Everyone likes to justify things with a lable, that helps them take away the responsibility of doing anything about it, and blame it on outside/genitic factors, (rather being the victim)
But in fact we can blame till 'kingdom comes', but we are in controll and responsible for our behaviours and actions.
Noone can force us to drink, 'We make that choice'
Yes its a dis-ease because it makes us feel un-easy, but it is also an addictive and very self destructive behaviour.
Perhaps there is something which he can't face/come to terms with, so he is using alcohol, to hide/escape from this,
so he doesn't have to face it or accept it or take any responsibility!
There are many support networks around, which can help him, to realize that it is 'he' who is in controll, and that by looking at his relationship with life, he can achieve wisdom and controll to get back on track, and stop making excuses for his Drinking.
i am an alcoholic and there is nothing you can do until he want to help himself. he is the only one that can stop him
When he is ready, he will go to rehab. Only then. So after everyone has walked away and he is at the bottom, well he knows what to do. You could take him to the local detox house and then he will know where to go when he is ready. You your self can help him by attending ALANON. Yes this will help give you all the info you'll need to weather the storm of destrustion brought on by yes this family disease, cause it effects you also. Helped my sanity.
it is a disease, but it is also a mental disorder. people are so obsessed with one thing that they cannot stop and it turns in to a mental disorder. and the worst part is that it is a mental disorder that will eventually kill u in the long run! hope that help u : )
No good arguing,try and get him to get clinically detoxed first.
Your brother needs to get into a program. I am also an alkie and doing recovery one day at a time. the disease cost me my drivers license.
Tell him to try not drinking for a year and he'll see why he drinks. Depending on how far the disease has progressed ; send him to AA or if he just can't stop, sign him up for rehab. He 's the one that must make the choice to go if he is going to recover . You are probably going to also need to seek help because it is a family disease . For you there is Al -Anon . It helps even when the drunk doesn't want help . Good luck .
Alcoholism is a disease but the good part is that there is a cure!!
Heyy! Alcoholism is a disease. It actually runs in some families, where if you have that trait, the second you taste alcohol, you're hooked!! But if your brother is serious about "quitting" then he can go to rehab or out patient meetings. Alcoholism being a specific and different diesase from others is treatable but not curable. Once an alcoholic gets treatment, the person cannot drink alcohol again becuase then he/she will have whats called a relapse.
But don't worry, there is something you can do about it. However, i am not sure that rehab exsists in Europe, but I am sure that its in the United States. It is treatable, but there is no medication to do anything abou it.
