Should smoking cigarettes be illegal?!

Question: They cause cancer and so many deaths, just like drugs, which are illegal. So should cigarettes be illegal too?

Answers: They cause cancer and so many deaths, just like drugs, which are illegal. So should cigarettes be illegal too?

Oh boy.

I'd like to say yes...but it's just not rational. Driving cars and jumping out of planes is dangerous if you look at it one way or another...but there's no way that'd become illegal. If cigarettes were illegal, booze would be illegal...everything that a person could do that would potentially cause them harm would be illegal.

Besides, you think "the man" would let such a profitable business slip out of his hands? Helllllll no.

NOW. Ask me whether drugs (you know which ones I'm talking about) should be legal. Should prostitution be legal? Should guns be illegal? Where are most illegal drugs made? Where are the most popular brands of beer made? Where are most cigarettes made (their "mother ship")? Look at the big picture. Who is profiting by keeping cigarettes + beer legal and most illegal drugs illegal?

It's a huge mess. If people want to slowly kill themselves...that's their choice. I'm leaving it at that.

No.

YES, FINALLY!

Yes.

Ban cigarettes.

Unban less harmful drugs like weed and LSD.

Peace.

No...what I wouldn't give for a puff right this moment....

well fast food should be illegal too than since they suffer from obisity and die eventually
heart attack, cholestrol, highblood pressure and shi

I support this, innocent lives do not deserve such horrendous consequences.

Yes...
it causes too much destruction in this world...

Should overeating and obesity be illegal? They are both choices.

Humans have pretty developed brain, and they should decide whether they want to be harmed by something or not. It does not make any sense to forbid everything. People should learn to think for themselves.

No, but i agree that they should only sell small quantities of cigs at a time

It's a persons choice weather they want to smoke it or not, they know the side effects and they still do it.
people still smoke weed, and do cocaine,
illegalizing cigaretter won't help much, after all, people will find a way to smoke them.

I say yes because not only the smoke that you breath in can get you become seriously ill but the smoke you breathe out can cause people around you to become seriously ill.

YESS
its bloody decreasing everyones life span !

no so do fatty foods the war on drugs has also been a failure as was prohibition

Yes because it is so bad but they con't because the will still sell it like drug deeling

No. People know of the risks and dangers of smoking, but start doing it anyway.

Alcohol also causes many deaths, as well as driving, yet they are not illegal. People have the rights to make their own choices, whether they be "good" or "bad".

No and they should be extremely cheap. If people are dumb enough to smoke, I wish they would do it more, thus they die more quickly and society wastes less money on them via increased insurance and Medicare.

Yes. I don't understand at the end of the day why people start in the first place? Because it is know commonly to everyone that it takes away good health with it. So there is the obvious reason that people start to achieve this "look" or whatevr they want to call it regardless of what might happen to them And after a good while your hooked and most times people to not get off them.

look up this thing called Prohibition
it doesnt work

do we learn nothing from history?

I am a non-smoker, but I do believe there is too much to be lost by banning smoking ... first of all, it's a proven method to help people relax, and in the get up and go type country we live in, it's not a bad thing to light up and calm down now and then .. secondly, many people use it, not just as an ice breaker, but as a means of socialization .. I have a hard time picturing a night life with people that can't stand around and share a smoke ...

Third and most importantly, a countrywide ban on smoking would put tobacco companies out of business and cost thousands of jobs .. whether or not you're a supporter of smoking, cutting out an entire workforce and putting families in very difficult positions is not right ..

People are aware of the effects of smoking ... if they want to do it, let them do it .. we're talking about free will

No

You know what if i am the president or a mayor in my country i would make it illegal because smoking is not good for my people specially the young ones. And I feel concerned when i see a child dying because of a lung cancer, cause by smoking. And it makes me guilty that i didnt take care of my people. Thats all!!

Yeah!

So should

-beer
-wine
-fast food
-fried food
-liqour
-eating too much sweets
-oil saturated fats
-processed foods
-preservitives
-the right to choose
-freedom

Lets just tie everyone up and give them helmets and tell them what to do every second of everyday. Obviously people can't think for themselves anymore.

IMO, Yes, they should be deemed illegal because far too many people die from the carcinogens in them. I've seen too many ppl who were/are also affected by second hand smoke become gravely ill and it is just a very sad situation to witness.

since there are evenly number of yes and no, I would say lets raise the price up to the extreme...but that can lead people become homeless too ....lol

Absolutely not. Should alcohol be illegal? Not only should it not be illegal it shouldn't be banned anywhere. Slowly but surely the politicians are eroding all our rights and privileges away under the guise of whats "good" for us. BS!!!

Yes, you can get lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and so much more but aside from being harmful to your self ETS (Environmental Tobacco Smoke) can also harm non-smokers who have made the decision to live smoke free. ETS can cause asthma and other things in young kids and can increase the risk of lung cancer in non-smokers. The sidestream smoke, smoke coming from a the burning end of a cigar, cigarette, etc. has carcinogens which are cancer causing agents that can lead to tumors and increase the risk of cancers. So YES IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL

NO. BOTTOM LINE. Because if people want to abuse their bodies by having a cigarette then they should be respected in their decision to do so, provided they smoke away from those who do not smoke. And anyway, if smoking was illegal there would be a HUGE black market, just like drugs, thus fuelling crime. And havent smokers been persecuted enough lately? I know that they cause cancer and death, but who wants to be 90 anyway?:)

Should it be illegal to own a gun, a car, eat fast food........? People have the right to kill themselves if they want to!!!! This country is becoming a dictatorship, telling us what we can and cant do. It is not about cigarettes it is about control. And the government wants to contol everything. I work in an ICU and I can tell you I see more people die from alcohol than smoking. Drugs are illegal only because of the governments' control issues, watch some of the drug history documentaries on TV HBO you may be suprised at what you learn.

yes, i hate breathing in other ppls smoke. I am forced to do it whenever they are smoking :@
