Seems a bad idea to me. Her scalp is going to be quite tender during the falling out time, which if she has hair falling out chemo is about 2 weeks away. Why do this?

Get her some nice scarves for day time and some cozy terrycloth turbans to keep her head warm at night.

No, they don't recommend you get the hair dyed or have a perm done. Instead, I'd suggest you invest the money in a decent wig or a collection of nice turbans and scarves. The hair is very fragile during chemo and the skin can be very sensitive- plus there's no way to know how the chemicals of the dye and the chemo will interact. Safest thing is not to do any kind of chemical treatments. I'm sorry, as the hair loss and appearance are really sensitive issues for ladies. But picking the wig out early can sometimes help with making the transition and adjusting to the hair loss to come. It also saves having to go out looking when the hair is actively falling out or the scalp is peaking through.

The chemo will make it so the color will not hold and it can cause her scalp to be very tender and become irratated easily. It is not recomended. There are some temporary colors that you may try that are not so hard on skin and hair. Some you wash in wash out and others last a week or two.
Good luck

Don't dye her hair. In beauty school they told me it can cause skin irritation and faster hair loss. Plus strong odors like that can cause nausea.
