Coughing is your body's way of ridding your respiratory tract from harmful substances/bacterias. You need to see a doctor. They'll need to know:

Are you coughing up large amounts of blood (massive homeostasis)?
Can you see blood when you cough up something?
How many times have you coughed up blood?
Is there blood-streaked mucus (phlegm)?

Did it begin suddenly?
Has it increased recently?
How many weeks has the cough lasted?
Is the cough worse at night?
What other symptoms do you have?

If you experience: any of the following please seek medical attention ASAP! This could indicate severe blood loss.

Dizziness
Light-headedness
Severe shortness of breath
Blood in the urine
Chest pain
Fever
Shortness of breath

This could be caused by:
Blood clot in the lung
Bronchitis
Bronchitis
Irritation of the throat from violent coughing
Nosebleed that drips blood down into the lungs
Laryngitis
Cancer
Cystic fibrosis
Good-pasture's syndrome
Inflammation of the blood vessels in the lung (vasculitis)
Inhaling blood into the lungs (pulmonary aspiration)
Pneumonia
Pulmonary edema
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Tuberculosis

Coughing up blood can mean SOOO many things, none of which are good, but some of which can be very serious (tuberculosis?)

If it keeps happening, go see a doctor.
Edit: also, just to quote this website: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/...

"If you have any unexplained coughing up of blood, call an ambulance or go to the nearest emergency department. This is very important if your cough produces large volumes of blood (more than a few teaspoons), or if you also have:

* Dizziness
* Light-headedness
* Severe shortness of breath"

It can mean a ton of things.
Hemorraging. (sp?)
Lung Cancer.
Brain Tumor.
You breathed in a toxin.
Internal Bleeding.
Scratched up throat (potato chips can do this)
Many other things.

When I was little I had the flew and I threw up blood once. I had reflux. I think it could mean several things. Maybe your lungs are bleeding.

I am not a doctor but that is not a good sign and if I was you... or that person, I would get looked at by a doctor.

Waste no time and see your doctor as soon as you can. Coughing up blood is never a good thing.

no dear, its not normal at all. this is definitely some throat or respiratory disorder.

its better for you to get yourself checked by some doctor ASAP.

take care

depends. I get nose bleeds in my sleep, so for me when I'm coughing up blood it usually means I had another nosebleed that went back into my throat because I was lying down. But it could also be serious--you should ask a doctor.

Coughing up blood could mean a person has tuberculosis,(This is probly the most likely, and can be very serious!!!) but I think these days they have a vaccine for it.

it's also possible that a person could just have a minor infection or something along the lines of Broncitis (which they use antibiotics to heal) Other then that hard coughing or mucus in the lungs could cause bleeding I suppose.

This is a potential symptom of lung cancer, but if you don't smoke, or have asthma, you should be fine. If it continues longer than 3 days though, you should scedule an appointment with your doctor.

i think its blood voimting...mayb if sum1s hurt terribly...den...

Anything, including tuberculosis. get to a doctor.

Haemoptysis (coughing of blood) even in small quantities is a very serious condition; as even if it is in small quantities it may get clotted; and if an inverted "Y"shaped clot is formed at the beginning of the bifurcation of trachea(wind pipe), it may cause acute choking and sudden death.

many, many, things. if you have bright red blood then you need to go to an ER fast. if it is darker you can go to the ER slower. but either way you should go to the ER- blood always means something is bleeding. it can always be a different source but none of it is any good

Coughing up blood is not normal, it is one of the symptoms of tuberculosis. Symptoms also include night sweats and weight lose. But you do not need to have both signs. If it continues please see your health care provider.

it isn't normal to cough up blood. You need to see your doctor. This could indicat a serious infection.
