Another asthma question?!

Question: I just started using a nebulizer. I end up having to stop my treatment to spit stff up.
Is that normal?
I've had many ppl tell me that they have asthma but never cough phlem up.
What is correct?
Asthma is going to make me cough stuff up or have I got something else???

That is what causes asthma. Phlem that is obstructing your swollen air passages because of overactive histamine levels caused by allergies. You need to cough it up, and the neubulizer helps you to do it or you can get pneumonia. I have had asthma since I was 9 months old, and I can tell you I have had phlem everytime I have been having an attack.
the reason is usually you are also having hayfever or other allergic symtoms. If you are having allergic rhinitis, you will having a nasal drainage into your lungs which will cause the phlem. You can have phlem without having an infection.

it seems like you have something else! my sister had asthma most of her life and I never saw her spit up anything! maybe you should change doctors......

Phlegm is a symptoms of a respiratory infection. Asthma is bronchial inflammation. Indeed, you may have asthma due to allergies, but it should cause wheezing. Asthma patients don't produce phlegm. They wheeze in light of cardiovascular activity. You may have a throat infection or bronchitis. Phlegm is the bacteria coming from your lungs. You need to kill the bacteria. A nebulizer dilates your bronchial airways, so you can get a airflow to your lungs.

Yes it in normal to cough up phlem during a breathing treatment. If you cough up sputum that is gold or green you most likely have an infection and should see your health care provider, possibly he/she will order antibiotics.

I also have asthma & use a coupe of nebulizers too.At times I've coughed up phlem & my Dr said that was due to my having bronchitis & sinus..

Btw,when I do cough up I found it was mainly due to the Albuterol nebulizer being too strong whereas there's no coughing with my Flovent or Vanceril.

Also, you can have the Dr rx you Advair or Spiriva to help you breath easier. Then use the nebulizer only for emergencies..

If the coughing continues have your doc change your nebulizer to another brand, there's several different ones..
