Am I sick or is this from cigarettes?!


Question: I had pneumonia a while ago, but I thought it cleared up. But tonight I have a cough and my throat is sore near the top.
I am coughing up yellow **** again.
I have no other symptoms, no headaches, no sinus issues, just the cough and sore throat.
Do you think I am sick or it's just from smoking cigarettes? This is important because I may need to take a break from cigarettes.

It could possibly be that you're betting sick again, but it's most likely from smoking. I had my first cigarette at 12, and smoked occasionally until the age of 15, when I got completely hooked. I started smoking to look cool, and at 15 when I started smoking half a pack a day, I was done. That amount went up to a pack a day, pack and a 1/2 at my worst, and now back to about 1/2. I got minor throat irritation twice a month or so, cough much more than a non-smoker, and occasionally coughed up yellow mucus (yuck! I'm way too young for that crap)

It's easy to say "don't smoke" or "just quit" if you haven't been a smoker, but for us smokers, it's much more complicated than that. It's not just a nicotine addiction, it's a psychological addiction as well. Many studies have shown that herion is harder to stop using than tobacco products. (Minus the painful and absolutely horrible time it takes for one to completely detox of opiates). When you're a smoker, you make a habit of when you smoke, such as lighting one up first thing in the morning, after any meal, in stressful situations, when consuming even a couple of alcoholic beverages, and many more.

You should try CHANTIX! This is an amazing medication that has also helped many other smokers I know, including a 56 year old woman who had smoked for 42 years, (the majority of the time two packs a day). She used Chantix and had great success, and that was over 6 months ago! It isn't a cheap medication, but will save you tens of thosands over the years in cigarette costs, not to mention the medical bills that are likely to come when emphysema or cancer occur later in life. I haven't heard a single negative comment about Chantix. I reccomend it to everyone wanting to quit! My prescription is ready to be picked up tomorrow and I can't wait to see what happens, I am expecting great results!

See a doctor, quit or it could worsen.

You are sick AND it's from smoking cigarettes.

And I wouldn't smoke more.

Cigarettes cause all kinds of problems. You should try stopping regardless.

Everyone should take a permanent break from smoking those little death sticks.
Smoking tobacco is possibly one of man kinds greatest follies.

It's possible that smoking prevented your body from fully clearing out the pneumonia.

You sound like you are sick which is acerbated by cigarettes.

it;s from smoking my dad just came from the doctors and he was coughing up yellow stuff too and they told him it was from smoking

DON'T SMOKE! Although you need to go to a doc to get proper diagnosis. It could be anything, and i know a deadly virus where you cough up yellow stuff but i forgot what it was called. GO SEE A DOC!

I have never understood the preference of people to fill their lungs with carcinogens in favor of the incomparable joy to draw a deep, clear, pain free and refreshening breath of air.

Smoking is not the cure for respiratory problems.

If you smoke be accepted by your peer group maybe that's because you don't want them to be alone in the cold ground of the cemetary?

cigaretts off course, quit it, its easy I did it twice when I was 27 Quit for 7 years and restarted, recently I have quit for last 4 months, other fellow smokers just cound't believe I have done it its a big surprise for them but yes I quit again.

Don't keep any substitute to quit because it will remind you of smoking its all too psychological so kill it with your will alone first 2 days are critical when you feel sleepy and after that life is normal again.

Yes, you are probably sick from being poisoned by smoking cigarettes and if you quit NOW it will greatly reduce your risk of getting lung cancer emphysema,or becoming a person with a can of oxygen on their back......as for your question....usually yellow phlegm indicates infection or irritation
and green phlegm indicates viral infection...i'm not a real doctor just doctor mom....my best advise to you is, yes you are right you do need to take a break from smoking ......FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!...... (LOVE, DR. MOM)

p.s I smoked from age 12 to 32 so I know it's hard to quit BUT IT IS WORTH IT!!!

youare sick because the your diet is bad and the cigarettes have weakened your throat and respiratory system. If you intend to live you must make some changes. First of all stop the cigarettes completely whilst you are sick or it could develop into a life-threatening condition and change some aspects of your diet. Take less salt, fat and sugar and eat short grain brown rice instead of bread, crisps and other processed food. You can also take oats, millet and other grains. Occasionally wholewheat pasta. Take oats or millet for breakfast (both are cooked in the same way. For lunch grated carrot chopped pak choi and sunflower seeds. It is important to eat the simple foods that are organic and have not been processed. The majority of your diet 60% should be devoted to rice and wholegrains. Brown rice can be made into rice pudding using soya milk and a small amount of honey. Soups containing carrots, chick peas (pulses and beans) are very good. If you eat more wholegrains such as oats and rice it will improve your health and it will allow you to recover rapidly from your illness. Its up to you to make the changes necesary for better health and a better life. An example of how this macrobiotic diet works is if you look at people living near the equator. The never get skin cancer even though the sun is blazing hot and this is because they eat a diet of mainly rice, wholegrains native organic vegetables* and occasionally a little fish or meat. They never get skin cancer but people in developed countries getting less sunlight do. Sounds like you have an infection. Go see a doctor. Instead of taking a break from cigarettes why don't you quit. You'll smell better, won't get so many infections, won't start coughing. Sinus drainage can also cause the cough and sore thought. Let a doctor evaluate you situation.
