Are allergies hereditary?!

Question: Any kind of allergies, medicine, foods, outdoor... etc.

Answers: Any kind of allergies, medicine, foods, outdoor... etc.

Sarah: There is a great deal of research being done in this area and so far the evidence is yes, well probably.
See, allergy is a defect in the immune system. The allergic person has an immune system that mis-identifies benign protein as evil enemy invaders. Lupus and RA are also both immune system disorders. Just because you have allergies doesn't mean you will have Lupus or RA, but they can all run in a family. For example, I have severe dust mite allergy, my children have various environmental allergies, my sister has RA, one of her children have RA and the other has no RA and no allergies. I have a cousin with no allergies, no RA but Lupus.
Before medical science advanced to its current levels, many people with immune sytem disorders (no matter the sort) died before they were able to reproduce and spread the genetic defect. With improved medicine, people with immune system disorders are able to mature and reproduce further replicate the genetic defect. That is one theory as to why there are more immune disorders today than in the past.
More than ya wanted to know? :o)

Some are. Some aren't It depends.

Food ones tend to run in a family. One of my HS teachers had 4 kids and every one of them was allergic to nuts and eggs.

Outside ones depend. My aunt has very bad outdoor ones, and my cousin (her son) does too.

I am very allergic to fur, but no one else in the family has a severe allergy to fur except for my other cousin.

yes

No one knows because you can have allergies at any age. I now have bad allergies where 2 years ago I did not. It also depends where you live. The Spring is the toughest for any one though - its when everything blooms.
You can also be allergic to pets, smoke, dust and or foods

Go to an allergiest and they will tell you what your allergic to. I am allergic to my dog and I refuse to get rid of her! I try to get away but she follows me everywhere

I just read an article about this in the Parent Guide magazine. Allergies are an over-reaction of the immune system to whatever the body sees as a foreign substance (could be dust, mold, pollen, foods, etc.) While a specific allergy is not necessarily hereditary, the tendency to have allergies is hereditary.
