Question about Azithromycin tablets for strep...not helping?!

Question: I went to an urgent care center with strep throat yesterday. Normally I get Pen VK, because I once had a bad reaction to amoxicillin. I usually get strep throat every year. I was a little concerned when the doctor prescribed me with Azithromycin, because I didn't know what it was. I was supposed to take 2 doses yesterday, then I took one today. So far, my nausea has gone away, but my throat has developed patches since yesterday, and it is much more painful. I am worried it is getting worse. Should I wait it out, or ask for a stronger medication as soon as possible? I also ended up vomiting about 3 hours after I took my first dose of medication yesterday (double dose), but I didn't notice them coming up. I don't know what to think, because I have never taken Z-pack before. I am concerned, because I have never felt worse after I have taken 3 doses of my medication when I have strep. Thanks for your help!

3 possibilities

1) The bacteria is resistant to azithromycin (Drug can not get in the bacteria or it gets pumped back out of the bacterial cell)

2) Doctors made a wrong indication

3) Could be a viral infection

FYI: Azithromycin works differently from penicillins which disrupts cell wall crosslinking. Azithromycin is a macrolide which gets into the bacterial cell and interferes with protein synthesis. It prevents the translocation of amino acids within BACTERIAL ribosomes.

Don't worry, after 20 minutes, the drug should be absorbed into your body so you did not throw up any drug. This drug should start working within the first 2 days. If not then it's not working.
