Vitamin C and the immune system?!

Question: I was talking to my room mate today and he was trying to tell me that if I take airborne or some other kind of vitamin c supplement to help with my immune system that if i stop taking it my immune system will drop below that it used to be and I will be able to get sick easier that if I would of never taken the vitamin c to start with. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? And hopefully show me where you found the info online. Thanks

Hey! No this isn't true. There is no proof that vitamin C stops you getting illnesses, but it can help you recover from them. Vitamin C has a major role in helping you absorb other vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D from the sun and Calcium for your bones. If you have been taking it as a supplement and you decide to stop, i doubt there will be any major impact on your immune system.

You will only get sicker if you have a vitamin deficiency, if you are under a lot of stress, etc. I wouldn't worry about this. I have taken vitamin C and then stopped and i found i was no better or worse. It is mostly used for assisting other vitamin or mineral absorbtion. Don't worry yourself with this. Good luck!!

no, it's not true...your immune system will not degenerate...the vitamin c and then the lack of the high levels of c would not lower your immunity at all

No it's not true.

I have to say that I do find I get sick after I stop taking Vitamin C. Your friend's suggestion sounds like an interesting hypothesis, you never really know what anything does or how it affects the body, more discoveries are being made all the time. Plus everybody reacts differently to things.

I would make up your own mind based on your own personal experience and tolerance threshold of Vitamin C.
