Does spending long periods of time in front of a computer attribute to acne?!

Question: I'm on my computer a lot and always have acne, whether it's really bad or just a little. There hasn't been a day in over a decade where I haven't had at least one zit. I've also noticed that a lot of so-called "gaming dorks" who play a lot of video games and computer games tend to have acne moreso than the non-gamers. Also, although it may be a bad example, but the one episode of South Park where the boys were obsessed with World of Warcraft showed them getting acne as they wasted days on end in front of their computers. I've also heard that sun exposure helps acne. Does anyboy know if there's a correlation between computers and acne, or do you believe it is simply the mixture of hormones, your diet, and perhaps how often you touch your face?

Getting out in the fresh air and sunshine certainly helps if you have oily skin, but sitting in front of a computer doesn't do anything in and of itself. Acne can be attributed to hygiene, hormones, and natural skin condition, as well as genetics.

no not cleaning ur face will

dont think so

Im assuming you're an adolescent? Age 12-19? Your hormones are the problem. Something that can't be controlled. I have had great luck with Proactive Solution. You might want to try it. I really don't think computers or video games have anything to do with it.

Its probably just that age when you start to get acne and pimples. But other than that im pretty sure that compters dont have like a virus to give you pimples.

naw it dont make u break out!!

Okay...first of all: the Southpark thing you quoted and the "gaming dorks" are stereotypes. The amount of time you spend on a computer has no proven effect on acne.

The acne you have is mostly to do with your genes; specifically the tendency of oily skin in your genes. My advice to you is to wash your face multiple times a day, preferably with a pH balanced product (there are also stronger prescription acne treatments which you could discuss with your doctor) . A natural way to balance hormone levels should help too--the best for boys is saw palmetto, and the best for girls is chaste tree berry.

Best of luck.
