No. It doesn't work like that. A CT is only one tool that a doctor will use to locate suspected disease. Unfortunately, unless a tumor or tumors are large enough . .than the CT won't pick it up at all. CT images also need to be 'read' and 'interpreted' by a radiologist . .and from experience I can tell you that a CT can miss areas of disease . .it won't pick up the cancer at all. Another tool that is used in conjunction with a CT is the PET scan . . this type of scan will vaguely tell where the disease may be located within the body. There can also be false positives or false negatives with a PET.
So, the answer is . . no . . a CT is a tool only . . and best used to detect where known cancer may be located. In other words a doctor needs to suspect that some type of cancer is present and be looking for it in order to find it. There should be other clues and tools used to confirm the disease (biopsy).
It depends on what part of the body you are having a CAT scan done on. And no, it won't just show it you have any kind. You need to have specific tests for different kinds of cancer.
