If your acne treatment is showing no signs of improvment...?!

Question: should you just stop using it?
I've been using it for exactly one month. Differin and Benzaclin
and at first there was improvment, but then came my period and of course I broke out (as much as I normally do, which is a lot) and it took a very long time to go away.
My skin seems a big rougher, and zitier (small little things) instead of big pimples. It also dries my skin out. My dermatologist said after one month I can try the minocycline he prescribed. My next visit is in two months...so should I stick with this routine until then, like he said?
I wash my face twice a day with cetaphil.
I admit that I have maybe missed four days of non-applying through out the whole month, but yeah.

Hi, I work for a derm office. Usually, if the regimen does not appear to be working, they will change it. You should go back sooner than 2 months and let them know it is not working for you, there are many other medications you can try. Also, consider taking an oral contraceptive, such as Yaz, if you experience outbreaks hormonally, it may really help a lot.

With your medication you can try this natural treatment also. Aloe vera pulp is an effective acne treatment it can be applied on the acne as well as taken internally to clear the system. Check out http://totalskincare-s.blogspot.com/ for more useful info.

The thing about facial cleansing and breakouts is that you have to do it every day because each day dirt and oil builds up on your skin. You have to keep your skin in a constant state of expelling the dead skin cells. The products your dermatologist prescribed will eventually work, but you will have to continue on them.

I have had cystic acne since I was a teenager (let us say I am now over 30!) and the ONLY "cure" is Accutane. I have used every product on the market and it was the only thing that rid me of constant breakouts. I know there is quite a bit of controversy over this treatment, but I had none of the adverse side affects except dry lips. Carmex helped that minor problem.

The next time you go to the dermatologist, ask him about it. As a female, you have to be on birth control and take a pregnancy test which is a hassle, but it is so worth it when it is all over. It is not cheap, either. But as an adult who has sever scarring from acne, it was worth it for me.

As for the dry skin, there are oil free moisturizers that can help . I'm sure your dermatologist has some for sale in his office and Neutragena makes an oil-free moisturizer for acne prone skin.

Hope this helps!
