My best freind has it. She was diagnosed when she was in 4th grade... Were 23 now. She already has an ostomy bag because they had to cut out her small intestine & rectum. Google it if you dont know what that means. Chrons is not a pretty thing to deal with. She always has pain and she used to go #2 like 10 times a day. Good thing is with the right dr. & treatment it can go into remission. I work at a dr.s office where we treat chrons patients with REMICADE. Have her ask her gastroenteroligist if thats an option. It helps with the inflammation that comes with chrons. Also, she can ask her dr about HUMIRA. I know you can google the scientifical things, I just wanted to give you some first hand info. My husband has Crohns. I've never heard that you die young or have greater risk of cancer. My hubby has had great luck with drug therapy after he had surgery some years ago to remove 3' of his intestines. He works full time and can eat anything he wants. He does fine. He just has to be "scoped" a little more often than most people to make sure everything is ok up there. Don't worry too much. They have good treatments now. There is a Crohns society. You can "google" them.
