How can I help my liver panel look better in one month?!

Question: Hi. I've had a bad liver panel in the past year. I was a heavy drinker and have been slowly reducing over time at the advice of my doctor. I also take the antidepressant Wellbutrin, which is very hard on the liver.
I must go for another liver panel test in one month. Aside from continuing to reduce my alcohol intake and taking milk thistle and B vitamins, is there anything else I can to do?
I know it's a short period of time, but I would feel so happy to see improvement!
Thanks for any advice :)

Just a query for you. Have you checked that you are able to take the milk thistle and vitamins?
I have liver desease and with the medication I am taking, I have been advised not to take herbal remedies as it could have an affect on my medication, thus giving elevated liver counts.
I have water with me where ever I go. Even a bottle in the car.
Contant sips of water through the day, flushing the liver, non-fatty foods and plenty of rest. Obviously this has to be balanced out with the exercise you need to take aswell. Your body will tell you when you need to rest.
You could also try to dilute your alcohol. i.e. wine and lemonade,
scotch and ginger.
Turn them in to a long drink and have plenty of water inbetween.
Hope this is a help. x

Just keep doing what you're doing and be consistent...If you can totally get rid of the alcohol consumption for a month it might make a major improvement.

Milk Thistle is good...You can also go online and look for a good liver flush.

Good luck

Liver problems usually start out as inflammation developing in the liver cells.
If the cause of this inflammation is not stopped, it can go on to cause the death of
the liver cells. IF you liver panel is not
looking good, this may be starting to happen or has already happened.
I would follow your doctors advice very
closely about discontinuing any alcohol
consumption you might be taking in.
A liver transplant costs in the range of
$250,000 and higher and the costs of
the anti rejection drugs run about
$10,000 or higher per year. Not all
insurances will pay for this to be done.

It is very good to know that you are already
taking steps in the right direction on this.
There is many causes of cirrhosis of the
liver and alcohol consumption is number one. Not everyone who drinks alcohol has
a problem...it depends on a person's own
body chemistry and how the liver function is..some people are very sensitive to this
drug.

Here are tips that they give all liver patients,
I hope they help answer your questions.
By the way, inflammation of the liver can
be reversed if the cause of the inflammation
is stopped and you are taking medication the doctor may give you to reduce it.
However, if the inflammation remains...it
can lead to death of the liver cells and no
reversal can be made then.

1. If you have side effects from coming off
of alcohol, the doctor may be able to give
you medication to help you through it.
Some people go into an alcohol detox program with the hospital so they can help
them get through it.
2. All medications you are on must be
approved by the doctor for you to take:
this includes over the counter, herbs, herbal
teas, vitamins, minerals, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. The reason for this is because most all medication goes
through the liver first to be broken down
before going to the rest of the body.
There are so many drugs on the market
including prescriptions that are very hard on
the liver...the doctor knows which ones they
are. Also, when the liver has inflammation
or the cells of the liver start to die off, then
the liver isn't able to handle a full amount of
some medications and they have to be
adjusted for dosage accordingly by the doctor.

3. You do not want to come down with any
other sickness right now. Wash hands often
and use purell when you touch anything
others have touched like door handles,
shopping cart handles, money, etc.
Also, avoid open salad bars, etc where
people tend to sneeze or cough into them.
Also be sure to wash all fresh fruits and
vegetables and things other people handle
in the stores. You don't want to have to
take any medication other than what is
needed now and you don't want your
body system to become weaker and not
heal your liver.

4. Avoid chemicals that are hazardous
to humans. One of them is carbon
tetrachloride. Chemicals can also cause
liver damage.

5. Try to eat well balanced meals. The better nourishment you have in your body,
the more you will be able to fight off any
liver problems. Take time to breathe in
deeply and do things to expand your lungs
and bring in more oxygen. Oxygen helps
us heal and also repair the body so it
functions well. Too many liver patients
end up mal nourished.

6. Rest when you are tired and exercise
accordingly.

Try to have your blood work taken at
the same time as your last blood work.
Be sure to ask if you should eat or drink
before any blood tests you have done.
Exercise just before having liver enzymes
taken can raise these blood levels.

If you continue to have liver problems...
I would ask to be referred to a gastroenterologist or a hepatologist.
a gastroenterologist deals with all the
digestive system. A hepatologist specializes
in the liver itself.

There are many tests that can be done
to check the liver: ultrasound, Ct scan,
MRI, etc. Most are non invasive.
However, the best test is the liver biopsy
to be sure how the liver is doing. This
test usually isn't done except as a last
resort because it is invasive and it costs
alot more.

I hope this has been of some help to you.
I wish you the best.
