Is what I think it is?!

Question: I got in an argument with a guy about whether Herpes was a virus or not. I said it was and as I turn he whipes his hand on the back of my neck. A few days later my lower back itched. (I'm straight and a guy by the way. And no, I've never had sex.)

Can you get Herpes from this? Please respond, I'm very concerned.

Yes, herpes is a virus, and no, you cannot get it from him touching the back of your neck. Not in a million years...unless he had herpes, had active lesions, scratched it and got the virus on his hand, and then shoved his hand down your pants, you're fine. If herpes could be spread this way, then everybody would have it, because every surface you touch is touched by hundreds of other people, every day.

herpes is a virus. you can get it from skin contact.

True, herpes is a virus. What the first person said is partially true, although you technically could get a strain of herpes from a gnarly wipe of a hand on your neck. Rest easy, though - that's not the type of herpes you're concerned about. Actually, most of the population carries herpes simplex virus I (a.k.a. HSV-I) in saliva. This is the virus that causes cold sores. Genital herpes is usually caused by HSV-II, and can be contracted through skin contact. Sometimes it can be spread through secondary contact, although that's pretty unlikely. (By secondary contact I mean, for example, hand to herpes-infected skin to uninfected skin). Don't worry.
