I have a sore on the side of my mouth/touching my lip- could it be herpes?!

Question: It doesn't hurt *at all*, it's just a small red spot or scab type thing beside and sort of on the lower left side of my bottom lip.

It does not look like a pimple at all. And, I am very prone to getting canker sores on the *inside* of my mouth (ever since I was a little child), but not really on the outside.

I did just get my wisdom teeth out a couple days ago and discovered it right after my surgery, so it could just be because my mouth was wide open for a while/it was dry/the dentist accidentally did something to it, etc...

But, what are the signs of Herpes on the mouth? I have nothing wierd going on in my genital area, by the way. I'm, 19 yrs, female, I have slept with 2 guys in the past 4-5 months.. with both, however, I didn't have them checked for STD's/STI'S, but they said they are both clear.

Thanks and please don't be rude with me

It could be herpes, but if it is it's probably type 1 (HSV-I). Most people actually have HSV-I in their saliva, so it's probably nothing to be alarmed about. HSV-II is the type of herpes to be worried about. Just one lesion on the mouth, especially one that's not painful, is very likely not HSV-II. Don't worry this time. I have to say, though, that you can't believe guys about that. Most guys wouldn't hesitate to tell a lie to get sex, and many of them probably haven't been tested. Even if they've truly never had symptoms absolutely does not mean they're infection-free. Also, guys can't get tested for HPV because there's no approved test. HPV is an enormous threat to women, and its spread is not prevented by condom use. Consider looking into Gardasil - all women should be vaccinated. Make sure you're also getting your annual pap tests. :)
Kudos on the "STI" reference. (For anyone who didn't know, "STI" is now considered the more correct term for "STD.")

I think you are correct in thinking it is from the trauma of the surgery.

Generally there is pain and other symptoms with herpes.

You are probably fine.

I get that sort of thing in the corner of my mouth occasionally, but it's not herpes, and it goes away in a couple of days, I think it's just related to scraping my mouth with something - herpes has blisters and scabbing, this does not.

Herpes on your mouth, if it even is that, is nothing to be worried about.

Over half the adult population gets mouth herpes before they turn 10 years old. Almost everyone has it, seriously. It's no big deal and it's not considered an STD.

You can tell if it's herpes because it will itch and burn.

i don't think this is herpes. it could be from the dentist if they accidentally cut your mouth or lip. herpes sores are usually have some pain involved. along with dry chapped skin, and itching and or burning and or tingeling sensation all at the site where the sore is. if u only have oral herpes u would not necisarally have then on your gentals as well. the way to tell would be if it comes back with any of the symptoms.
