Pretty gross question, but what's wrong with me???!

Question: Okay, so I keep getting these horrible upset stomach deals like at least once a week. Usually it starts off as just gas, then my stomach starts churning really bad w/stomach cramps (horrible, can barely sit up), very watery diahrrea up to 10 times during the day, and then I'll vomit whatever is in my stomach...sometimes things that I ate 24 hours BEFORE. On top of all of this, I have the "rotton egg" smelling burps which causes me to throw up from the stench. I know that's really gross but what do you think it might be? I've been to the doctor and they said that it was just a stomach virus and it will pass. But it's an every other day thing now.... :( HELP!!!!!!!

I have this too unfortunately and after LOADS of stupid tests they come back with IBS, which seems to me what they label things as when they don't know what else to call it.

I just kept finding things on the internet that would say different things, so I tried them all. Unfortunately, I think what you need to do is you need to fast for a day - with water and garlic, clear your system - then slowly reintegrate foods back into your diet till you find what it is. For me I found specific culprits that caused it were fatty foods, meat, eggs, and cheeses. My son would get the cramping and nausea as well just like me with oatmeal as well. So I have attributed it to an allergic reaction.

I used to get it weekly or biweekly, but for me, I have found cutting down on fatty foods (and I have returned to a vegetarian diet), taking one clove of garlic a day cut in halves or thirds (I swallow them like pills), and drinking a LOT more water has helped.

From what I can tell though, the smell and taste is sulfer - so it is basically food not being digested properly. Since you have seen a doctor, and they have cleared you for everything else, it couldn't hurt to give your body a good cleanse and some time to rest and see if it helps.

Good luck. I still get it sometimes, but now like once every 3 months, and no vommitting or anything with it... just the burps and taste (ew sorry). So that is progress, right?

ibs? chrons?

go back to the doctor and firmly say.
this is not a stomache virus.
i know my body.
a stomache virus doesn't go on and off and a VIRUS does not last that long.
demand a second opinion

How long has it been going on? If it's more than a week, that's bordering on the extreme for a stomach virus.

Could it be a food allergy, perhaps? Do you have other allergies?

possibly you've eaten food that had sat out of the fridge to long. and got food poisoning.

I'd go back to your Dr. if this doesn't clear up. At first I thought pregnancy or food posioning. I hope you feel better soon!

If I had to take a guess (which I do), I'd guess you seldom wash your hands before you eat, or after you use the bathroom.

It might be some food that you are allergic to, it also depends how long this has been happening...remember viruses usually take 1 or 2 weeks to clear up.

Take some chamomile and peppermint tea to calm down your tummy, but if it continues I would definitely go and get a doctor to check it again.

drink a lot of sprite,7up, and water... sounds like slight dehydration... they should have done a blood test.... did they?

One question when you cook or who ever cooks at your house do they make sure that the meat is properly cleaned and cooked. Maybe you should ask your doctor if you could have Salmonella Poisoning.

If you have already been to a doctor and you are still concerned, the best thing (and safest thing) to do would be to get what is called a "second opinion". In other words, go to a different doctor for a second diagnosis. They might catch something the first doctor missed. However, if the second opinion agrees with the first, then take their advice, take a sick day, and try to get over it- you are going to be ok.

go back to the doctor!!! tell him you want to have tests done

take a pregnancy test

my friend had the same symptoms and found out she was pregnant. Thats weird b/c everything ur saying is exactly was wrong with her. She even had her period

This is more than a virus and obviously you should see a gastroenterologist. your family physician is guessing and he is guessing with your health.

OMG!!! I didnt think anyone else out there had this???!?!?! I saw all your symptoms and then I thought "well she didnt say anything about rotten egg breath". AND THERE IT WAS. This has happened to me like 3 times in the last month. Its awful I know and the ER DR told me it was a stomach infection as well. Do you have any gastro problems to begin with? I do and it sucks but this just adds to it. You should ask to give you an H Pilori (sp?) test. Thats what im doing in the next week or so because my daughter has had this happened to her on and off for 4 years now. Its soooooo annoying I know. I hope they find out what the heck is going on with this!!! Good luck to you!!

Complain to your Dr. again or get a different one.

It could be a bacterial thing. Do you have pets? Also, the handwashing thing does go a long way. Keep in mind, if you use a public bathroom and wash your hands, and touch the hand dryer or door handle, you could get all sorts of funky microbes. The hand washing thing is often linked to digestive problems, however there's a million more things it could be. Soil, soft cheeses, mold, wood dust from pressurized wood (arsonic poinsoning)....the list is endless. You need blood work.

Need some more info: How long has this been happening? That's key. If it's been a few days then it is still working its way through your system. If it's been a few weeks then there's a problem.

Did they do a stool test? That's important. The most common cause of this kind of gastroenteritis is viral. That doesn't show up in tests. The second most common is salmonella. You can get them many different ways.

To take care of yourself in the meantime, make ice chips. Take ice cubes, put them in a plastic bag, wrap in a towel and beat them with a hammer, shoe heel, can of soup, whatever. Put them in a plastic cup and keep in the freezer. Suck on those to get fluids if your vomiting.

Eat very mild food. BRAT diet is best. Bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast. You can include chicken broth in that too, as long as it's without chunks. You need to be drinking a lot. Mild tea, mint mixed with chamomile or something, is good. Do not try to eat regular food during this, you'll just make it worse.

If this has been happening 1 x a week for many weeks with your stomach going back to normal between times, then you have something other than an infection going on. You need to tell your doctor that and get a referral to a gastroenterologist. You could have Crohn's or another disorder that needs to be correctly diagnosed so that you can be appropriately treated.

I hope that helps.
