Please help im only 18 and have been told i have a low b12 level of 203, i also suffer from great anxiety could it be these two things linked that are causing these symptoms or could i have MS or ALS?
What are the chances of an 18 year old girl having ALS or MS?
I have had loads of blood tests, an abdominal ultrasound, a chest xray and they all came back normal apart from a low b12?
Please help im so scared!!!

It sounds like you got an acute case of an anxiety disorder and are imagining that something grave is wrong with you . You're only 18. And your body shouldn't be falling apart.

Let's review all your symptoms:
Painful jaw which clicks might be due to TMJ disorder. The stabbing pains in your legs, arms , hands and feet and neck might be due to growing pains. or prolonged positions . esp during sleeping. Stomach problems might be due to menstrual cramps. Muscle weakness ;twitches and tingling might be all due to muscle strain and lowered energy level.and the Vit B -12 deficiency. . The normal blood level of vitamin B12 ranges between 200 and 600 picogram/milliliter (148-443 picomol/liter). So your blood level of 203 is within normal.limits:

Frequent urination might be due to a slight UTI( urinary tract infection common among women) Your clumsiness is typical of the awkwardness of puberty. Headaches might be due to stress ; vision problems; or hormonal changes.

Early and even fairly pronounced deficiency does not always cause distinct or specific symptoms. Common early symptoms are tiredness or a decreased mental work capacity, decreased concentration and decreased memory, irritability and depression.

Sleep disturbances may occur, because B12 may be involved in the regulation of the sleep wake cycle by the pineal gland (through melatonin)

Neurological signs of B12 deficiency, which can occur without anemia, include sensory disturbances due to damage to peripheral nerves caused by demyelination and irreversible nerve cell death. Symptoms include numbness, tingling of the extremities, disturbed coordination and, if not treated in time, an ataxic gait, a syndrome known as subacute combined degeneration of spinal cord.

B12 deficiency can also cause symptoms of mania and psychosis.

Recent studies have devalued a possible connection between B12 deficiency and Alzheimer's dementia, and such a correlation is unlikely as of June 2007.

Studies showing a relationship between clinical depression levels and deficient B12 blood levels in elderly people are documented in the clinical literature

If all the tests came back negative; you shouldn't worry too much.. Worries and stress can do more harm than good.!!!!

Go to the sites below on ALS and MS. you 'll find out that you don't have either one from the symptoms stated there:

Did you hit your period?

It could be the "great anxiety". Maybe a therapist could help.

MS starts with blurred vision always so I don't think so..

ALS no... that starts in the limbs arms or legs...does not cause any of the other symptoms.. so I am sure it is likely to be anxiety.. if you are on anxiety meds they can also cause all those symptoms if you are on cold turkey from medically prescribed anti anxiety meds.. you have neigher MS or ALS

so don't be too scared... you have anxiety attacks...if you are not on medication yet.. most likely you will be.. you have to cooperate with your doctor to find out what works best for you... perhaps you need them only temporarily due to stress..

Pills are really not a solution.. maybe if you find out the root cause of the anxiety that can help you deal with it... but it's still good the doctor do all these tests..

Good luck and get well soon !!! xxx

Have you ever heard the quotation "The only fear you have to be afraid of, is your own fear" Your only problem from what you say is, B-12 and, that is correctable by diet. MS is easily diagnosed through an MRI or other diagnoses.
I think you should wake up and "Par Diem" (seize the day) thank God your alive to see the sun again, go outside and smell the fresh spring air, then start telling yourself how good you feel.

Life is to short to feel crappy. Don't.

I have osteo-arthritis in the severe degenerative stages along with degenerative neurological disease. I am disabled, can be on my feet for 3 to 4 hours although with pain, I can stand. I'm seventy years old and look forward to each and, every day. Get out there and don't worry so much.

I spent my eighteenth birthday in a muddy hole in North VietNam trying to survive, it was my second tour of duty after being wounded twice. I grew up in a hurry, wishing I would have never left home......seize the day.

I had the same kind of thing but with different systems. Doctors are useless with this kind of think but try going to a naturpath. Yes they are expensive but really worth it. They can find the problem almost immediatly and they will give you a natural way to resolve it. They will also be able to help with the Anxiety. If you live in adelaide email me and i'll give you the number of the lady i went too.

Good Luck

just wondering, have you by any chance had a growth spurt lately? What do you mean by frequent urination? Are you also drinking a lot?

Okay, first, calm down. A vitamin B12 deficiency can cause numbness and tingling of the limbs, memory loss and depression. This vitamin is necessary for maintaining a healthy nervous system. So your doctor should suggest Vitamin B12 supplements. Deficiency can be caused by lack of B12 in the diet, pernicious anemia or impaired absorption by the intestines. You need to know the reason for your deficiency to know the dosage range and method for treating it. You may need B12 injections or an oral, under the tongue liquid.
Deficiency can cause a sore tongue and it affects the spinal cord, leading to the numbness and tingling I mentioned. You need to discuss this further with your doctor to get proper treatment. But, it is not life threatening right now. So don't worry. Put all the energy that you are using to worry, into getting treatment and feeling better. Good luck!
