Reduced risk smoking?!

Question: Someone suggested this but I wonder if it is true: if you smoke only one cigarette in a day and only do this once or twice a month can your cillia in the lungs deal with the toxins in a cigarette like any other pollution or foreign objects and therefore you can avoid lung cancer and other smoking related illness.

Advice from medical experts on this one is appreciated. Thank you.

Dont take advise from idiots. Any inhaled toxin increases your risk of respiratory ailments. Even non-smokers have gotten lung cancer.

i'm not expert but smoking is really bad n that's why ur advised not 2 try....

not a medical expert, but a true life smoker here. Nicotine is an addition, and the body will want more and more, and not less and less.
and if You're only smoking one a day once or twice a month, then why not leave it completely?

yeah but it will never stay at one cigarette a month! you will keep wanting more and more.

The 2 drugs work in different ways and affect different parts of the body. Alcohol is a natural substance that is found in nature for example in plants and is good for you in moderate doses but nicotine has no benefits whatsoever. There's no point smoking 1 a month because it's just something your body has to focus on cleaning up and getting rid of.

I had been a smoker for years but now I hardly smoke and don't even have the craving. But once in a while I do feel like smoking and I don't hold myself.

According to an expert its like playing Russian roulette. You never know which cigarette may trigger the carcinogenic chain reaction in your lungs. But what the hell, we inhale so many other pollutants all the time and any of those also may cause the same problems.
So take this perspective, if you are doing it just once in a while, you are relatively at less risk than playing Russian roulette all the time. Just make sure you don't try to harm others by your smoking.

THE BENEFITS OF QUITTING
* Within 20 minutes of quitting - your blood pressure and pulse rate drop to normal and the temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal.
* Within 8 hours of quitting - your carbon monoxide levels drop and your oxygen levels increase, both to normal levels.
* Within 24 hours of quitting - your risk of a sudden heart attack decreases.
* Within 48 hours of quitting - nerve endings begin to regenerate and your senses of smell and taste begin to return to normal.
* Within 2 weeks to 3 months of quitting - your circulation improves and walking becomes easier; even your lung function increases up to 30%.
* Within 1 to 9 months of quitting - your overall energy typically increases and symptoms like coughing, nasal congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath diminish; also, the small hairlike projections lining your lower airways begin to function normally. This increases your lungs' ability to handle mucus, clean the airways, and reduce infections.
* Within 1 year of quitting - your risk of coronary heart disease is half that of someone still using tobacco.
* Within 5 years of quitting - the lung cancer death rate decreases by nearly 50% compared to one pack/day smokers; the risk of cancer of the mouth is half that of a tobacco user.
* Within 10 years of quitting - your lung cancer death rate becomes similar to that of someone who never smoked; precancerous cells are replaced with normal cells; your risk of stroke is lowered, possibly to that of a nonuser; your risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas all go down.

A small amount of smoking will not cause any significant harm. Try not to worry about it - just enjoy yourself and relax.
