The only things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes

Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflammatory, so try it. It should reduce the swelling and discomfort. But you should really see a doctor if you think you have an infection.

Try Tylenol Cold & Sinus. That will help better then plain tylenol.

Ibuprofen will help with the pain--not clear up a sinus infection. My best advice for simple sinus inflammation is to use a neti pot (saline nose wash, minimally once a day, preferably several times a day, to irrigate the sinus passageways). You can find these pots at health food stores.

You can use an antihistamine (benedryl) or a decongestant, but that can be short-lived, make you drowsy. If you suffer from allergies, you may want to take a claritin (found over the counter now) every day (it won't make you sleepy). But, again, the best cure is really a neti pot...it also helps to prevent colds and sinus problems from starting.

If the drainage turns greenish, or you have fever and facial swelling, you may want to see your doc to get a prescription for an antibiotic.

Yes, but Ibuprofen must be used according to a medical prescription and correctly, at the end of a meal to prevent ulcers. Don't try over the counter, self help medication.

Antibiotics would be a much better choice than Ibuprofen, assuming that you really have an infection (evidenced by green or greenish mucus).

I would try Tylenol Sinus first, though. I trust their cold medications and use Tylenol Cold "Nighttime relief" because it contains anti-histamine medication to stop a runny nose, even in day time!

Ask your pharmacist for advice if you don't want to see a doctor.

It will not clear the infection. Rinse your sinus passages with warm salt water inhaled by the teaspoon-let it run down your throat. You will kill the infection immediately. Blow out the mucus. Rinse with warm plain water, blow again. Stay away from decongestants and antihistamines-they will dry out your body causing further sinus problems and possible kidney damage as well. You may have developed allergies-it is the season. A teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day will help your body develop immunities to all the air born irritants around you. Take a good dose of echinacea a few times a day for 2-3 days and you will be all better!
