Is there something common in the things I'm allergic to? Please read details!

Question: I've always been allergic to petroleum since I was a baby. But, recently (within the last year) I have become allergic to walnuts, carrots, celery (?) and onions (?). My mouth starts to itch and I break into hives when I eat these foods. The ones with the ?'s are ones I don't know for sure. I have an appointment with an allergist soon but I was wondering if anyone could help me now. So, is there a common ingredient in :
carrots
onions
walnuts
celery

I don't know of anything except that many people are allergic to walnuts. I just know that anybody can pick up an allergy at a moment's notice. When I was going to college, I walked across the campus and swelled up like a poisoned dog. I had to get to the drugstore and buy some benedryl. I had never been allergic to anything before but it appears that I was suddenly allergic to some big bushes with white flowers on them. So, you're doing the right thing by seeing an allergist, you can never tell what's going on. You might need an epipen to carry with you. Sorry you're having problems, good luck.

Make sure that your allergist runs a blood test for food allergies. I know that celery and carrots are related to each other (I"m allowed to eat them all on the same day on my rotary allergy diet) in some way. Onions are a little different.

You'll be surprised at what the allergy test turns up. Avoid these foods for a few months.

Good luck!
