a good place to start is reading everything you can get your hands on. Google diabetes and you will come up with about a million sites. some of these are really good and some are really bad.

Realize now that there isn't a quick fix for this. You can't just take a few rounds of pills and be over it like the flu! this is a lifestyle changing diagnosis.

I recommend 2 books to start with: "Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year" and "Atkins Diabetes Revolution" Either or both these books will answer myriads of questions you have and loads more you haven't even thought of yet.

There is a diabetes foundation, but that isn't the place to find info on this disease.
http://www.diabetes.about.com has some really good articles for starting to learn about this disease. The guide there, Deb, is an RN and the whole site is overseen by medical personnel. there is a forum that is friendly and helpful as well. Free site, but must sign in to post on the forum.

While the American Diabetes Assn is maybe a good place to start, they are still in the dark ages with their ideas of food planning and exercise for practical uses. The same for any dietician or Certified Diabetes Educator. They merely parrot the thoughts of the ADA and advise us to eat smaller servings of the same foods that got us here in the first place.

A really good food plan starts with Low Carbing. Atkins or South Beach Living, phase 2 of either, is a good lifestyle for lowering glucose levels with or without meds to assist.

Email me privately through my avatar for answers to more questions you will have. I have a lot of bookmarked sites that are good reading including these 2:

good luck friend. I have been diagnosed for 11 years now! But no! I don't have all the answers either.

Go to a diabetes educational class. Your doctor will know where they hold them. Many hospitals have them, so you could call and find out. Get yourself a dietitian or a nutritionist.
There is a lot of misinformation on the net and you can get confused. Your best bet for learning is a class where you can ask the diabetes educator questions.
