Donating Blood..?!

Question: My school is having a blood drive and they need students to donate blood. I always wanted to donate blood and when I get older I want to be a donor. I asked my mom if she'd let me donate blood, but she started yelling at me saying that I'm just a child. Is it bad for a fourteen (turning 15 next month) year old to donate blood?

your mom must be either really selfish or just plain crazy. how could she be angry because you want to do give and help save lives ? i started donating blood my freshman year, so i was around 14-15, and my mom signed my forms every time. if you are under 17, you need a parent signature to donate.

everyone should donate blood at least once .

Your mom shouldn't have yelled at you. But I think you are too young to donate blood. You'll need to check. It's very admirable of you to want to donate blood.

tell you mom that you did not appreciate her yelling at you and you felt disrespected, all you wanted to do is help someone else, but you understand if she thinks your too young....
might get you grounded.. so dont yell at her

You cannot donate blood until you are 17 years old.

The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) makes the rules regarding blood donation. So according to the FDA, you are really "just a child".

Perhaps you can help out at the blood drive in another way? My students who are under 17 help with greeting donors, registration, and snacks during our school blood drives.

When you turn 17, please donate blood! It really does help save lives.

No, it's not a bad idea! I'm not sure, but you might have to be a certain age to donate. Talk to the techs there and ask them all that stuff.

Maybe your mom has had a bad experience in her past with blood donors or something?

All I know is that I can't donate blood(chronic disease), so it's really great that you want to help out there!
