Did you know this about Altoids?!

Question: I know many people suffer from Peanut and Tree Nut allergies. I often check products online to make sure they are safe for me to consume. I contacted Altoids and asked about the risk of nut traces being on their other mints and gum products.

I am including the reply I got from Altoids in additional information to back up my question.

If you have peanut allergies don't you think factories should be labeling their products properly?

None of their mints or gums are safe for people with peanut allergies or tree nuts. Yet they do not have any thing on them!

This makes me so upset that they have no concern for other people's lives! This could of cost me my life....

So those who will appreciate it please pass on the information to those who suffer from food allergies won't you?

I hope you all have a wonderful day and I hope I did something to help someone else out!

They are supposed to be labeling their products in the US if there is even a chance. My daughter has severe food allergies especially to tree and peanuts. If you want some good safe gum try Gee Gum it is made the old fashion way. The potential for cross contamination is so high is this situation I would recommend staying away from these products.

Good luck and be safe

yes!

They are not saying that the candies definately have peanut oil on them. They are saying there is a chance of cross contamination. I would say this is more of a legal disclaimer than anything. Since you asked, they are not wanting to say that there is absolutely no chance of there being peanut product in their candy. If they did and something did happen then they would be in a lot of trouble. I have a feeling that if you contacted most food producers and asked, you would get similiar results.

All processed foods will have a chance of contamination. There is absolutely no way to prevent it from happening. The chance is probably extremely small. There is also a chance of being contaminated with various poisons or bad bacteria. There is no way to guarantee that this stuff does not happen. If you believe there is then you are very naive. If this fear is a problem for you then do not ever buy food again. Grow and process your own. The companies will do all that then can but contamination will always be a possibility.

wow that is crazy i didnt know that

Yikes!! Thanks for sharing that info.

I had no idea! Thanks for sharing. My gran daughter is allergic to wheat and we are finding that it is in many things without being listed. You really have to research these things if you have allergies. I am pretty sure that if mints were classified as food, they have to list nuts as a possible ingredient. Maybe they have a different classification.

I agree! It is scary to think that people don't put it on the label! I have allergies too...

I had read that doing this sort of thing was illegel ,but I guess they don't care!
