It is very gradual, it can take from between 2 years to 30 years to fully manifest, but it is usually about 10 years from the time it starts before the individual is diagnosed.

Yes, the onset symptoms are usually slow and subtle, especially at first.

The primary cause of diabetes is genetic.

Type 1 occurs when the body loses its ability to produce insulin. This is most likely because the body is programmed to destroy the part of the pancreas that makes insulin [beta islet cells] early in life.

Type 2 occurs because the body loses its' sensitivity to insulin in peripheral tissues [ie arms, legs]. While genetic in nature, its' onset is also affected by luck and lifestyle. Someone who is born with the tendency can keep it at bay for a prolonged period of time by a combination of strict dietary weight control and daily aerobic exercise. This does not mean it won't happen, it just means it will take 20 to 30 years to develop instead of 5 to 10 years. [my mother-in-law held back diabetes for almost 40 years in this manner]

i don't think there is 2 types of diabetes. But anyway diabetes will only occurs, when you are not doing exercise. Sugar can also cause diabetes.

either, or, it can happen suddenly or it can take some time. It just depends on ur risk factors. as far as ur diet, weight, nationality, and if u have any other health problems. It also can depend on if it is hereditary, and which side of the family it is on.

it happens gradually , it is not an infection it is a chronic symptoms.
it is not necessary if you are at high risk to develop diabetes.
stick to healthy food and always do physical exercises and you will be fine.

its a gradual process.. but type II diabetes is easy to prevent, and even if you do get it, you can reverse it. just lower your sugar intake.
I'm insulin resistant, and i was told that diabetes was in my near future, but i plan to fight it off with a low sugar diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Diabetes develops over many years. To understand this, it's important to understand what happens in type 2 diabetes. Due to many complex interactions, involving lifestyle and genetics, the body becomes insulin resistant. Insulin is the hormone that lowers blood sugar. In the insulin resistant state, the body initially compensates by making more insulin from the beta cells in the pancreas. Unfortunately, with persistant insulin resistance, the beta cells eventually fails, and ultimately sugars rise, eventually to diabetic levels. At this stage, the condition cannot be cured. So the important thing for you to do to lower your risk is to stay fit and maintain a good diet a healthy weight. This gives you the best chance to avoid developing the disease.
