I have been diagnosed with diabetes but my glucose counts seem normal?!

Question: The doctor wants me to go on Metformin I have not started taking it yet because my counts seem low, yesterdays counts were 1st thing = 6 and hour after breakfast 5, 2 hrs after lunch 5.6 , before eve meal 4.6 and 2 hrs after 6.2 (and it was a pub lasagne). This morning 5 then 5.3 2 hrs after breakfast and 4.2 before lunch. These sound normal to me - what should I do.

Those are normal levels. How were you diagnosed? If you were only recently diagnosed, it may well be any lifestyle modifications you've made have resulted in better sugar control. However, if the last few days have been the exception, and you normally run higher, your GP may well have been swayed by your long term blood results. This could be a long answer, so briefly I'll just say those results are normal, and if they are your normal sugars, there would be very little indication to start you on tablets. Impress this upon your doctor.

Get a second opinion, young doctors are quick to place clients/patients on meds it builds their clientele.

I think you should go back and discuss this with your doctor. Don't try to decide what YOU think is normal. That's why he/she gets paid the big bucks! It's your health. Be safe about it!

Trust your doctor. This is why we go to them. Don't do what you think is right, do what HE thinks is right

Did you get a glucose tolerance test to diagnose diabetes-
If that came back abnormal then you ARE diabetic-no doubt about it.!!
Usually you are advised to try and control it by dietary means to start with and if that doesn't work, tablets are the next step.
You will get 6 monthly blood checks to see how you are progressing.
Don't worry about it!
