My heart beat is going fast... is something wrong?!

Question: Last night I felt my heart racing a bit, If I've counted correctly it was around 105... so I called the hospital and they told me you're probably anxious so get to bed and relax for an hour and call us back if it's still the same...

I took an hour rest and my heart beat was about 100 bpm. so I thought it was ok and I slept...

Today I had an interview at the gym, They checked my heart rate and it was 109, the instructor told me its too high, so I began to worry as he checked it again, it reached 120... I told him it must be because I'm nerves or worrying he said its stil not normal...

oh.I've had Nausea yesterday morning but had a medication for it and its better now. Also had cold and flu medication.

been exercising at the gym yesterday and my heart was about 145 while cycling.

So.. 105-120 bpm, feeling worried and scared, never had heart problems before, not feeling any pain, dont smoke and dont drink, I'm 19 year-old male. Should I go to stright to the ER or pharmacy or what?

No, you shouldn't go straight to the ER. Your heart rate is fast because you are anxious and you are thinking about it WAY too much. Heart rate of 145 while cycling is entirely normal. The gym instructor is talking crap saying it's not normal for your heart rate to increase to 120 if you are anxious - it's totally normal.

Your heart rate is slightly higher than normal because your body is fighting off an infection (cold/flu). Stop thinking about it, stop checking it constantly, try to relax and try to forget about it. I can assure you, this is NOTHING to panic about and you definitely do not need to go to the ER!!!!!!!!I

just rest for a day or two from everything

Don't worry, normal heart rate is 60-100bpm so you're not that far over. my HR shot from 72 to 120 and has been at 120 for a month now my cardiologist said it won't do any damage to have it being at 120. It can be an electrolyte imbalance. I know potassium messes with your heart, so try eating a banana, especially if you're at college nutrition can suck. Also it could be a thyroid problem so you may want to see a doctor and ask him to check your TSH and T3 hormones to check thyroid function. but just dno't worry because a heart rate of 105-120 isn't going to kill you. If it get up over 200 and you're not working out real hard find a doctor.

Im not sure if anything is wrong or not. I have high blood pressure. When you see those machines that take it. I about break them on my normal rate. My average heart beat is probably close to 100 a minute. Sometimes it goes below that and my blood pressure adjusts. Ive had this issue since I was around 17. Im not 36. Ive seen many doctors. Since its normal for me I wouldnt see a problem. But if its not normal for you I would suggest going to the emergancy room and getting an EKG.

That will tell doctors alot. Just have them check the emergancy room visit should be free if you have insurance. If you dont they will still admit you and bill you. Might cost you 200 bucks. But they will find out alot. If its not normal and lasted this long go to the emergency room. That way you dont have to wait 2 weeks to get into your doctor.

I have GAD (general anxiety disorder). If you worry about it your blood pressure and heart rate will go up. If you go to ER they will rule out any problems with your heart. Then they can test you on GAD. And recommend how to deal with it so you dont have panic attacks.

My suggestion. Be Well.

Well you are most likely in no danger. You are beating to fast though. You should have some testing done. I would be cuious what your BP was . If you go to the ER they will do an EKG and refer you to someone. You could convert back to normal rate on your own. If you have a good insurance policy then you could go to the ER. It might be a good idea to have an EKG while you are in this state so if it does convert back you knew what was happening when it happend. If you have good insurance what the hell...go to ER. It is not like it is an energency but it would be good to run a strip on you when you are like this.

you might have been over exercising in the past
or
your diet was improper

take rest for a few days and take light diet( non oily)

you should see a doctor
don't drink any caffeine

dont worry, im 12 years old and that has happened to me today,,, and is still happening. My heart is beating way unusually fast, and i got nervous as HELL, which made my heart beat sooo much faster. I did research and you should just sit in a quiet, dark room and breathe in and out.... hey it workd for me. And dont stress it NOTHING to worry about

You don't need to go to the ER. These heart rates are probably a little higher than normal for you but certainly not dangerous.

It seems you've been sick lately. Dehydration (due to nausea/vomiting?) or fever can cause your heart rate to increase a little. Another possible culprit is the cold and flu medication. Check the package insert for the medication you took. Many list tachycardia (fast heart rate) as a possible side effect.

A heart rate of 105 is fine. The 120 you experienced at the gym is probably due to anxiety or nervousness, just as you'd thought. I don't think the instructor knows what he's talking about.

If your heart rate stays elevated once you're feeling better and off the medication it would be wise to see your doctor then and have it checked out. And of course don't hesitate to go to the hospital if you feel it's gotten worse.
