Answers: can you ever cure IBS, if so how?...any advice please

You can never cure IBS. But you can keep the symptoms under control by choosing your diet appropiately.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder of the intestines. It causes belly pain, cramping or bloating, and diarrhea or constipation. Irritable bowel syndrome is a long-term problem, but there are things you can do to reduce your symptoms.

For some people with IBS, certain foods, stress, hormonal changes, and some antibiotics may trigger pain and other symptoms.

The main symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome are belly pain with constipation or diarrhea. Other common symptoms are bloating, mucus in the stools, or a feeling that you have not completely emptied your bowels

Irritable bowel syndrome is a long-term condition, but there are things you can do to manage your symptoms. Treatment usually includes making changes in your diet and lifestyle, such as avoiding foods that trigger your symptoms, getting regular exercise, and managing your stress.

There are also medicines that may help with your symptoms. If diet and lifestyle changes do not help enough on their own, your doctor may prescribe medicines for pain, diarrhea, or constipation

If you think you may have IBS, see your doctor for proper diagnosis and care. Depending on the type of IBS that you have, there are various treatment options, including dietary changes, stress management, medication, behavioral therapy, and alternative treatments.

It's a matter of trying to live with your symptoms rather than having your symptoms take over your life.

People with IBS need to be careful observers of the effects of certain foods. They may wish to avoid or limit certain foods based on their experiences, such as:

Gas-producing foods, such as beans, cabbage, broccoli, or onions, especially for those with abdominal distention and flatulence
Foods high in fructose. Fruit and many products that use it as a sweetener should only be used in small quantities
Products that contain sorbital (an artificial sweetener used in dietetic foods, some drugs, and chewing gum) should only be used in small quantities
Caffienated products
Carbonated drinks
Dairy products, including milk, ice cream, and soft cheeses especially for those who have lactose intolerance .

Hi Clair,
Well this is a subject that's not talked about normally, I think it can be controlled,The thing is it is not a problem that you can solve just like that. I would recommend,That on the daily eating of the following,[Get some natural yogurt half of a banana, slice the banana put it in a bowl add about 3or 4 spoon fulls of the natural yogurt, eat this every day,and you Will fined that you problem will be gone, and to keep it at bay always eat yogurt and banana every day.] I know you might think, what banana and yogurt Will help. Yes it will,I ask you to try it for 1 mouth, and I am sure you will find That it works. You see yogurt is a living bacteria, and the bacteria that live's in your gut is not as strong as yogurt,so the yogurt Win's the battle. Try it as i say you will not be disappointed.it's good treatment for a bad stomach. If you can let me know how you get on after, your mouths trial. you see i was given this years ago, and it always works for a bad gut. so trust me, have it for breakfast every day and you won't look back. P.S. don't forget to thank me, which i'am sure you will.

IBS can't be cured because IBS is an umbrella name for an unknown problem. It is different for everyone. There could be any number of reasons why you are having these difficulties. The Dr. diagnoses it as IBS because they do not know why you personally are experiencing the problem.

My Gastroenterologist diagnosed me with IBS a few years back after doing quite a few GI tests. He couldn't find any problems so he called it IBS. But I was diagnosed with a Kidney problem a few months back (last October). Since the kidney problem is now being controlled, I have not had any trouble with IBS. I found out that this kidney problem could cause certain IBS types of symptoms. So now I know what caused my problems. We were just looking in all the wrong places.

Any number of things can be the culprit under the umbrella of IBS. But I do know that by avoiding certain foods, you can figure out how to avoid the symptoms. Get a list from your Dr. and experiment and see which foods trigger it for you.
