Had glucose tolerance test and became very sleepy, does that mean diabetic or hy!

Question: I sometimes get low blood sugar and almost faint, but this test drained me for 24 hours. I am still tired, is that a sign of either illness?

No, it isn't a sure sign. When I was pregnant, I did the test and I felt incredibly woozy and sleepy and couldn't leave the place for almost an hour afterwards. I occasionally have times when I feel my blood sugar is low and feel the way you are describing, but after my son was diagnosed (it runs in his father's family), I started testing myself when it happened. I was always normal. Maybe a tiny bit low, but in the normal range for a non-diabetic.
The test gives you a huge amount of sugar on an empty stomach, so it makes sense that you feel terrible when you are up and when you are coming down. I think it is the drop that makes you sleepy. And the stress of the results of the test as well.
After seeing what happens to my son (two years after the gestational glucose test), I understand it a lot better. But I agree with the doc, wait for the test results and watch what happens to you as time goes by. If you are really worried, you could buy a meter for those times you feel faint, and test yourself. But I wouldn't worry, if it has been a few days since the test and they haven't called in a hurry, you are probably fine. Good luck

In glucose tolerance test or GTT you are give a load of glucose orally and then your blood glucose levels are measured periodically to know your status of glucose control. If you are having insulin deficiency your blood levels are still Raised.
So you cant get hypoglycemia thats for sure after the test. As for diabetes if your report is okay then that is also ruled out. Maybe it was just psychological. I think so if that happens again you should consult your physician

Sleepiness is a sign of high blood sugar.

Feeling weak and shakey is a sign of low blood sugar.

You're probably going to have to wait until the test results come back.
