Is rubbing alcohol a good substute for soap?!

Question: I just ran out of soap tonight and i thought it would be a good idea to wash my hands in rubbing alcohol and water. Does this clean my hands at all? is it as effective as soap?

Alcohol is toxic to your body - if you understood the molecular composition of it you would know that it is a compound that is difficult for the body to expel, so use it sparingly.

I will also tell you that one of the biggest contaminants of the human body based on autopsy reports is detergent. It leaves a residue that is difficult for the body to eliminate.

The thing that removes harmful bacteria best is actually vigorous rubbing. Whether you use soap or not, the best bet for removing bacteria and viruses from your hands is how well you rub - minimum 1 minute. Hot water helps too - as hot as you can stand.

I'd say don't use it. Just try shampoo or hand soap from a soap dispenser.

(Edit)
I read to fast. It's just for your hands. lol. Use shampoo still :P

As long as you scrub your hands, I don't see why not.

use moisterizer afterwards.

It would disinfect your hands, but it is very drying.

It will disinfect them but really isn't good for your skin. Do you have dishsoap?

yeah thats fine its actually better then soap.. but dont use it all the time.. you will dry out your hands

Way to drying.

Use shampoo, dishsoap or liquid laundry soap.

It should be ok for disinfecting your hands....I just wouldn't use it more than once like that, otherwise it will dry out your skin.

yea

It's excellent. And when your kids talk back, I would strongly recommend washing their mouths out with straight rubbing alcohol and hydrogen paroxide instead of that pussy soap bullcrap.

Well it wont leave you smelling good but it will remove bastard germs and its a good antibacterial substitute

ahaha
alcohol :')
a pure shower in vodka lmfao
That would be funny.
I like this question.

Yes, It is the primary ingredient in hand sanitizer.

no, it will dry out your hands. your hands will be hard and weird feeling dont do it. also if you have any cuts on your hands, well it wont be pretty

It's not very good for your skin but if your only doing once it's ok. It just drys out your skin you'll probably want some lotion. And yea it will kill whatever germs like soap...just go to the store and get more soap :)

dont see way not

No! Alcohol kills the germs and bacteria, but you actually need those things to survive and fight off infections as well.

And whatever you do, don't replace your soap with shampoo. It'll crack your skin and leave it with a burning sensation.

Actually, it's more effective than soap, and better for you since it doesn't work against your body's natural antibacterial defenses. But like somebody above me wrote, you should definitely use some kind of moisturizer on your hands afterwards, or you'll get some seriously dry skin.

For quick cleaning, yes, rubbing alcohol is fine to use. The problem with it is it tends to be drying and it is very harsh if you have a cut and it's not so good for your fingernails (because of the stripping effect it has.)

But yes, if you run out of soap and need something quick to use until you get some, rubbing alcohol first, then water to rinse away the residue. :)

eww rubbing alcohol is super mild liquid sandpaper i would wash my hands with soap after i got it on my hands
i wouldn't, i would just wait and use just water
if u already did don't worry at all its not bad i just would make sure its all washed off

yeah sure, not bad, but mistake ppl make sometimes is inhaling the alcohol fumes, those fumes are extremly dangerous, rubbing alchy, and normal drinking alchy are completly differnt, rubbing alchol is a ethol wich is toxic to humans.. but it does kill germs and bacteria ,,, smart thing

try shampoo.

The alcohol will kill the germs, however it might not remove your hands of dirt and other things like that. It could also affect your hands. Could actually make your hands more sanitized.

If you want to keep your hands germ free then use Hand Sanitizer.

it could be but not most of the time..Rubbing alcohol is a cellular, volatile, just be careful because it is also a flammable liquid. rubbing alcohol can be applied as a cooling, soothing application for bedridden patients and athletes. It helps soothe deep down cold bones (e.g., shins) if rubbed into skin during winter seasons. It is also widely used for cleansing surgeons' hands and instruments and for the disinfection of skin prior to penetration by a hypodermic needle. As an antiseptic it is good against vegetative bacteria and fair against fungi and viruses, but is ineffective against spores

No, because it dries the skin out. Even if you have oily skin,it can cause a dry peeling affect after a few weeks of usage. Of course if it is only for the hands a few times it will not hurt. Still moisturize with a lotion afterwards.
