Sometimes it is hard for me to tell what direction noise is coming from, is that!

Question: For example, if my phone rings sometimes I think the sound is coming from the room in the opposite direction.

Hi Joanne L,
No it is normal, very normal, the only sound that is truly directional,i.e. that you can detect in which direction it is coming from is [ white-noise ] they use it in sirens on police cars and other emergency vehicle's.

If you have hearing problems in one ear, this will happen.

I sometimes have the same problem but its usually when I'm
reclining. I think its just the way the sound is received.

That's normal :)
Happens to me all the time. Also, sounds can echo in unusual ways. I told a mechanic once that my front right tire was making a noise for a week, when it was actually it was the back tire. He said that people do that all the time and it must be the way the sound travels in the car.

I can't say normal per say, but it is not UNHEARD OF! Thinking on a scientific level something called the Doppler effect is the volume of a noise compared to how far away it is. I don't think its compared however to if the noise is in front or to the left vs behind you though. I don't think it is necessary to worry unless you have symptoms of hearing loss like turning up the tv, or always asking someone to repeat them self!
