Thrush? how serious is it?!
Question: i am 25 years old and have had a white film on my tongue. Its been going on the past 4 or 5 Months. I didnt realize what it was as it seemed to come and go and now it looks worse so i called the doctor on call today and he called something in for thrush. I have looked it up online and it says that if it gets into your system that it can get into your lungs, chest etc and cause more problems, how would i be able to tell if thats the case? from what I see its only on my tongue. should I make a doctor appointment? :(

I get oral thrush periodically from my inhalers. If you take the medication as you're supposed to, then it should go away no problem. But you need to find out why you got it in the first place- a lot of asthmatics get it from inhalers, for example. It's also an opportunisitc infection that a lot of immune-compromised people (like people who are HIV-positive) get, too.
Generally, whenever you notice it, you should call the doctor as soon as possible so you can get antifungal medication for it. But I've been getting it off and on for years, and so far, I haven't died or anything. ;)
